good ep! Took a bit to get going but damn. Everything from Viserys' throne room entrance on was some good shit
Alicent's kids are the worst. I like how Aemond went from a picked on kid to being the big bully now. That dragon rly boosted his confidence

Mannnn I'm gonna miss Viserys/Paddy a lot, he crushed it. Sad to think of him being in only eight episodes, just like Sean Bean being in only 9. Top billing in both shows dead before the first season finale
The scene when he walked out was so good, I loved him showing up for Rhaenyra and loved Daemon helping him up the stairs. Dinner scene was also great, I thought he was gonna die right there as he watched the fake happy family. Sad to think of it all going to shit the second he's taken out of the room
I think if the show has any problem at this point it's just......how can anyone be team Hightower? Her sons are horrid. I'm team Rhaenyra and Daemon all the way, despite their faults
Daemon defending the fam by killing Vaemond was great
Really liked this ep | |

My favorite episode yet. I loved the King walking in and Daemon giving him his crown. Paddy was great in every scene, like usual. Rhaenyra crying at his bedside in the rain.
The show has made Allicent and her side so unlikable. Her, her father, the eye patch dick, the elder son who looks younger than him now but is a rapist. The bastard children of Rhaenyra seem ripe to be killed for sympathy with how they're being presented as well. Very Rob Stark like, only weaker. Is the story supposed to be obvious in them getting brutally killed/destroyed while bad guy eye patch and clown rapist see victories? Or will they die fantastically, too?
Eyepatch isn't even heir to the throne and he cares more for it than his brother does. Does he plan to kill his brother?
I guess what the creators want us to feel is that Allicent has had every opportunity to kill the King in these past ten years and hasn't, so she isn't THAT bad. Something we're supposed to accept rather than be told. |

I thought you'd be upset again about a member of House Velaryon being killed in cold blood and his murderer walking free

are the two sides supposed to be equally liked? That would probably be more interesting but doesn't seem like what they're aiming for. Both sides have more shades of grey than say, Stark vs Lannister but still
I did like that they brought back a glimmer of the Rhaenrya/Alicent friendship this ep. Obv it's not gonna last and was at least partially performative but I hope they explore that thread a bit longer. Still one of the bigger missed opportunities imo was not to show more of their good days together so it hits harder when the animosity begins to brew

Crispy Crispon or w/e his name is walking free and unpunished remains garbage and was obviously mishandled in writing/direction in that episode. The low point of the season. It just never would've happened and to have that so baked into the show now whenever that character is around is unfortunate. They didn't even try to make it make sense in episode 5. At least in the books I'm told it happened "accidentally" at a tourney. This was just silly. He literally just saunters away after the murder surrounded by all the noble houses, guards, etc.
In this episode, the guy called the heir a whore and her children bastards, and was going to be killed given he said it. So it didn't come off as baffling that there was no punishment for disposing of him. |

idk, I keep seeing comment sections of people debating which side to root for but there's never any real debate, no one is team Hightower. I figured if they wanted to make each side grey then they would also want the audience to be leaning different ways. I wouldn't say the sides should or ever would be equally LIKED, but their POVs maybe equally sympathetic and understandable would be interesting

Both sides are meant to be disliked, but I can't help but prefer the blacks. The show does a good job in justifying Alicent's actions repeatedly though because she is not to be liked at all.
Paddy was phenomenal this episode. I always predicted episode 8 or 9 to be his end but glad it was 8. It was necessary to move on to the dance that is about to begin. However, he certainly went with a bang and his performance was great.

I have always wondered what episode 9 would be like on television and I can finally see this moment , so I am beyond ready for this episode. |
