Just watched this. It is nostalgia to the 1000% percent. Is it hokey at times? Of course it is, it's a movie about dinosaurs. Is it a fun 2.5 hours in a theater? Hell yeah it is.
It was exactly the trainwreck of a dumpster-fire I thought it would be, and even more! Two claw toes up for me!
This was pretty enjoyable. I thought the CGI was great especially at the start. Some of the chase sequences were a bit shaky cam-y but other than that I liked it. I watched it in 4DX which did add a LOT to the overall experience. 3.5/5 Claws from me
Fallen Kingdom was really poorly written and made me roll my eyes so many times, but this movie was bad in a different way. It was so....lifeless. Like devoid of any emotion whatsoever. I watched it with a static face the entire time and it was maybe the least riveting blockbuster I've seen in awhile
No memorable set pieces or action sequences. Absolutely no tension to be found anywhere, it was almost impressive. They would cue something up and try to go for a memorable or nailbiting bit but it would fall so flat and just end. It was so safe and forgettable. TWO named characters died! Both bad guys who were destined to die the moment they showed up. No big swings and no risks to be found
Legacy characters were...fine. All three are great characters and actors, but these writers had nothing new to say or do with them
Seemed the writers thought it was good enough to just come up with a collection of ideas re: dinosaurs integrating in the real world like animals. "Oh oh oh there would maybe be activists trying to free some! And they can be herded by Chris Pratt like cattle! And maybe there can be black market interest and illegal underground fighting rings! Genius!" I would've almost preferred a much bigger swing and had it be about the dinosaurs taking the Earth back from mankind and be post-apocalyptic. Cities overgrown and infested with dinosaurs, a band of survivors trying to make it from point A to a safe zone etc. At least it would've been different instead of a rehash
Very soulless. Worse than the awful JP3 but better than Fallen Kingdom. Though I will say Fallen Kingdom had at least three visuals or sequences that I can clearly recall. Ask me in a few months and this will have had none
