Saw the first four. Not a fan. Oscar Isaac, Belushi, and Catherine Keener are the only redeemable things for me.

I watched the first two episodes last night actually, I like it so far. Isaac really carries it, Molina's pretty good too. The street-level characters are a bit underdeveloped at this point but I'm sure that'll change, considering that's Simon's strong suit

this is my biggest complaint with the show. "let's tell a story about institutional racism from the perspective of the white people having to deal with it"

I see what you're saying but there are more complete stories of institutional racism from the side of the poor and the black, from the same writers who developed this show. What's interesting and unique to me about this is how it deals with those questions from the perspective of the powers that be.

Eh I feel like we get that dynamic more often than we get the Wire. It was in Crash, which handled it tastelessly.

I do think, given the plot, that there's not much character dynamic for the minorities to have because they don't have a say at all in this situation. But it doesn't really offer any interesting characters outside of cliched "poor people just tryna do the right thang". There are legitimate arguments to not moving the projects, and all of the people against it are portrayed as volatile monsters (sans Catherine Keener, who is the best part).
