but some critics were saying it was going to the modern-age A Clockwork Orange in regards to controversy... lol no. Most ridiculous comparison I've heard all year.
That it was controversial. It has some rape scenes and a lot of violence, but even with all that it still makes you love the guy portrayed as the 'bad guy' as the movie progresses. It's the most glorious type of mind-fuck. Malcom McDowell is great in it and this film is the definition of a cult-classic film. It's a masterpiece. Such a clever artistic vision by Kubrick (the director of 2001, The Shining, Dr Strangelove) , and would still to this day call it ahead of our time. It's fucking art man.
His work is too great to not be recognized; here ya go:
Twin Peaks (the entire original series + reboot)
The Elephant Man
Eraserhead
Mulholland Drive
Blue Velvet
Inland Empire
Fire Walk with Me
Wild at Heart
Lost Highway
The Straight Story
Dune (the adaption to Frank Herbert's classic novel).
All of them are absolutely genius. He's a god amongst men. <3 <3 <3
Saw 'Mother!' last weekend, and my god, was that a weird fucking movie!
You can't expect anything different though from the man who directed 'Requiem for a Dream', the film was glorious though.
There was this one particular scene towards the end that I was shocked at the fact that they were allowed to show that. Not that I had a problem with it - but you hear so many times from directors that had cut out a lot of stuff they wanted to include due it being too violent or macabre, even with an R rating. So the scene they showed towards the end of this movie was just the jaw dropping type of shocking. I just sat still in my seat at awe at the fact that a scene like that was being shown considering the inevitable controversy that will be surrounding it.
The entire film just had this suffocating feeling about it. All the fear and confusion that the main-character felt during the film - you felt as well. It was one confusing scene after another yet each scene up'ed up the uneasy feeling within you. It was unpleasant yet amazing to feel that way whilst watching something - a total immersive experience that was well worth the money.
