“Smash Into You” - Beyoncé
(Originally by Jon McLaughlin, but she kinda stole it from him and he was forced to take his version off his sophomore album and there’s no trace of it anywhere.) |
why does this story interest me so much? lol Did someone else write it and preferred Beyonce sing it? Or did he write it and Beyonce was like, uh-uh this is just mine now?

They bought him off and changed the lyric “Smack” to “Smash” so Beyoncé could get writing credit lol. But the lyrics are almost entirely the same. Her version is amazing! But JM’s version is only on Youtube and low quality. I’ll post it later. |
I'm not familiar with Beyonce's version either. But I'm intrigued by this backstory. lol

I noticed it was 11+ minutes. :P
I've only made it through the first song so far. And that was yesterday.

I haven't gotten that far down into the playlist yet. Maybe I'll listen to song #10 on its own.

When the Phish song first started and it was just guitar, I was like 'okay, not bad' but then they added all these extra things and music. It's almost too much, like there's a lot going on. The vocals (two lines) are not that great. Somewhere around 5 minutes, I realized this is the kind of stuff you'll hear when you're shopping at the mall lol.
I listened to the whole thing though, just for Vern. To be honest, it didn't feel like 12 minutes. So they kept it interesting enough but it's not really my kind of jam.

I like the quieter parts of Use My Voice when Amy Lee does that, uses her voice. :P
I have to relisten to some of songs from the middle of the playlist again, but this could be my second vote.

I didn't give Beyonce enough attention on the first listen.
But I'm going to listen to the other dude's version before final judgment. :P
So he didn't actually write the song, it was just supposed to be on one of his albums but then given to Beyonce. I do like his version though.

Thoughts on other songs:
Bring Me Down isn't bad actually. I don't like the 'oh-oh-oh-oh-ah-woo-woahs" in the chorus.
Sway - maybe I was in a different mood the first time, but I didn't really like it originally. But today, I enjoyed it. Depends on the day I guess. But there's nothing really memorable about it.
I know Steely Dan is one of those classic bands, but I don't like this. :P
I think I actually heard the Beyonce song before. Of course she sings it brilliantly, but I like the other dude's version too, maybe better even. Don't tell Beyonce.
Luke McMaster isn't someone I'd normally listen to, but I saw him live once when he opened for a different artist. And I was pleasantly surprised. I added 3 of his songs to my playlists after that. lol This song gets stuck in my head.
I really like The Trouble I've Been Looking For. Automatic first vote as I said previously. The one noise can get a little annoying but it doesn't seem to take anything away from the song. I mean, maybe that's why it's good, who knows?
A New Error is not terrible. It's not something I'd put on when I want to listen to music, or to sing along to something. Unless I made up my own words. I could hear this kind of music as like a background soundtrack of a video game or an advertisement for a super fancy futuristic car.
