"Old Reliable? Yeah, great, there's a sexy nickname."

Angi, Eben, Rose and Wikey stared at each other.

Nobody spoke for what seemed like hours.

Finally someone said something.

"This is really getting ridiculous."

It was Angi.

"It's like we all know we should just go home, but we can't."

The others nodded in agreement.

"It's almost like we're being controlled, like we have no free will," she continued.

Wikey noticed a swirl of shiny flashing lights beginning to form behind Angi.

It grew bigger as she spoke.

"Um," Rose started, pointing behind Angi. "What's that thing?"

Angi started to turn to look behind her.

"Oh no, it's another one of those ---"

A flash blinded everyone as arms reached out of what turned out to be a portal, grabbing Angi and sucking her in.

The portal closed partially, then reopened.









Then it spat a lifeless Angi out on the ground in front of them.


Angi has died.

Wikey has been lynched.

I'm eating dinner, and Survivor is on tonight. I will try to get flavour up as soon as I can. :P

"Right. So, our friendship is linear. It's simple, comfortable."
"Effortless, really."
"As soon as we deviate from that path..."
"Change becomes exponential."
"The point of no return."
"It's quite lovely when you think about it like that. And also terrifying."

Wikey noticed something sticking out of Angi's pocket.

"What's this?" he asked, pulling out a folded piece of paper.

"Looks like a note?" Rose commented.

"Yeah. It is."

He read it out loud.

"Sorry to put you all through this.
I was just curious and wanted to have a bit of fun, really.
So I gathered a collection of people like you, both good and evil, from different universes, and timelines, and mashed you all together in what turned out to be an epic battle of survival.
The two of you have outlasted all the rest---"

Wikey stopped reading.

"Two of you?" he repeated.

The others seemed just as puzzled.

"But there's three of us." Eben said.

The note in Wikey's hand suddenly caught fire, which spread to his hand and Wikey was quickly engulfed in flames.

Wikey has died.

Another portal opened, and a man walked through. "Hi," he said. "Sorry about the confusion. There were supposed to be only two of you left when that note was read. I had to fix that pronto." "Great," said Eben. "Can the two of us go home now?" The man continued to speak. "Well, not quite yet. There was more to the note, but since that's destroyed, I thought I'd finish it in person. I'm Joss by the way." "Hi," Rose said. "You look familiar." "Well," he said. "We've never actually met, though I know you all very well." "Yeah?" Eben said. "How's that?" "You exist, but only in imaginations. I'm familiar with all you, because you're all characters in stories, that I've written for. I thought it'd be cool to throw you all together and see who came out on top. Speaking of which, there's one last bit of business we need to get to." He cleared his throat. "But first," he said.
