I didn't know either at first. Igor seems to use that term the most. |
There's a lot of people on this board that like to get offended for the sake of being offended.
They don't even know what's so offensive about what they are getting riled up about. |
I don't understand why people feel like they need to let everyone know they're offended and that they think somehow people give a shit if they are somehow offended and that they somehow deserve a remedy for the fact that they are offended.
Its literally narcissism run amok.

If we don't we might as well be saying we think that it's okay and that's not right and if it's not right you have to put it right |
But whats "not ok" to you is totally fine to other people.
500 people might be totally fine with a comment or a joke but its incredibly narcissistic for one person to just say "THAT OFFENDS ME" like anyone gives a shit.
I'm 100% sure that there is nothing in the constitution that says you have a right to not be offended nor are there any laws that say that its not ok for people to offend you.

Though I've always loved the libertarian/conservative "People shouldn't get offended" crap. After all, if you are soooo for free speech, then why do you want to control how someone else reacts? Isn't that free speech too? Or is it only OK if it is something you get upset about? |
People are allowed to react any way they want to, but most of these people feel like everyone else should care that they're offended but the bottom line is that the vast majority of people could give a flying fuck less.

My point is that everyone makes their own decisions about public trials all the time. Why is rape treated differently in the court of public opinion than murder? Both accusations ruin lives. |
I dont really think it does though. I'm sure Brock Turner as just as much of a chance of getting any kind of a job right now as Casey Anthony does trying to get a job at a daycare.

Brock Turner was found guilty
|
Correct, and he paid his debt to society and was released.
The point i was making was the court of public opinion and the actual legal system are two completely separate things

LOL yes because three months in prison is truly paying a "debt to society."
He ruined a woman's life. |
The American legal system seems to think so.

No, a shitty male judge seems to think so. |
Judges make up the American legal system, they're one in the same.

Would you be so laid back and cool with your girlfriend getting raped and the rapist serving three months in prison?
Sing this same tune when you're not disconnected from the issue? |
You're really misinterpreting what I'm trying to say.
I'm trying to discuss the issue reasonably and logically without attaching emotion to the issue. I absolutely do not agree with the sentence he received but it doesnt mean that he wasn't found guilty, served his time, and was released into public with his debt to society paid as determined by a court of law.
