"Take in the mountain above, Roth. It's called Purgatorio. Above it is the holy realm....the realm of Paradiso. If you can best the trials of Purgatorio...if you can survive and prove you still have what we need...we can still use you Roth."

Roth stared up at the mountain.

"I never did want to give it up." He said firmly.

Virgil nodded.

"That's the right attitude. I will guide you Roth but much of the trials....much of what lays beyond....those are your own calling. If you want to take it on so be it but it's not something most could stomach."

Roth shrugged.

"I will do as I always have done. I will push on. If it fails so be it. But I am not holy. I am not welcome in Paradiso."

Virgil smiled.

"Redemption is always possible Roth, don't forget that. And what you did to try and fight the forces of darkness...what you did was good. Fight with us, and best these challenges. And you can have your purpose. Your mission has changed....a little. The target is different. But I do hope you'll accept."

Roth glanced up at the looming mountain and laughed.

"I don't believe I have a choice."

Virgil smiled.

"Roth, there is always a choice. Nothing is pre-decided. Never forget that."

The two walked towards the base of the mountain, deep in conversation.

"But be wary, Roth. You cannot be so naive as to think that your essence cannot be removed entirely. Death is not the end. I'm afraid that what it is to live and die may no longer be the same. Not for a while."

Roth paused at the base in confusion.

"What do you mean exactly if I may ask?"

Virgil glanced across at the lapping ocean waves, coursing up the shore of the strange island.

"A great darkness has befallen the world. The gates of Inferno were opened, and the damned have been released. The dark ones. Those who have relinquished their lives to evil and are forever tormented by their sins. Until now they were locked away. These ones are past redemption."

Roth frowned and shook his head.

"I don't believe there is no way to prevent this. Surely the forces of good at least outweigh the forces of darkness. I would hope this was the case."

Virgil stopped as they finished the journey.

"You'd be surprised. A great deal of darkness exists in the world. It's about even. But it's largely immaterial because our forces need to be on hand to defend our realm. That is where they will ultimately attack. Earth will fall. Nothing can stop this now."

Roth fell to his knees in dismay.

"All those people...to be consumed by darkness. Is there nothing I can do...? I owe them. I helped it to escape. It's my fault."

Virgil glanced up at the tall mountain as Roth followed his gaze.

"Until you find redemption for your darkness, Roth, there is little you can do. Take on Purgatorio, and all may not be lost. There may be something you can do to assist further. Things could quickly get out of hand and there is a very important task which may seriously alter the course of this brewing war."

Roth nodded. "I will do it then. You talk about choice. It feels like I'm having no say in any of this. So let's come to a compromise."

Virgil glared in puzzlement. Compromise was not something he was used to seeing.

"I will only take the journey if I don't do it alone. A great tragedy is heavy on my heart. I allowed something else before the events of the labyrinth. More lives lost to disaster. A young girl amongst them...."

Virgil nodded with an understanding.

"We know about Kristoff and the incident in the village. Any time a dark one escapes to the surface, it's something that needs to be kept in check. And there was no need. The problem solved itself."

Roth shrugged.

"Nevertheless, I will not take the journey alone."

Virgil was beginning to get a little edgy.

"Nobody takes it alone Roth. There will be others just like you who have to figure out all that went wrong."

Roth glanced upwards.

"Then they shall have to wait for me. Kristoff needs to join me on the journey. He needs peace as do I. I will save the world but first allow me to do as you demand please, and save myself."

Virgil shook his head.

"Your stubbornness is part of the reason you were chosen. But be wary. It has its limits. Fortunately I think we can make an exception for this circumstance. We normally don't allow people to choose who they journey to Paradiso with but...since it's a critical time. Very well."

"Focus the energy you were given. You can use the power of the lightning to travel great distances. Concentrate on the target. But be wary, Roth. Just because you are dead...as we discussed, it does not make your very being immortal. Too much use of that power can still destroy you."

Roth frowned.

"But surely this power is dark. It was given to me by a very evil man."

Virgil smiled.

"Yet the energy itself came from a pure source originally. I would not ask you to use it otherwise. Find the one you wish to travel with and return immediately to take the journey. But be careful, Roth. The trials of Purgatorio are very intense. Do not trust your senses once the journey begins. They will lie to you. And whatever you do, do not let the darkness consume you."

"In that mountain, everything that is bitter and twisted in your essence and the essence of those who travel with you will come to the surface. It will try to destroy you. And if you aren't strong, you will be destroyed. If you fail the trials there is no coming back. You will not merely tumble to the liberated ruins of Inferno, this time."

Roth nodded slowly.

"I shall try. What more can I do?"

He closed his eyes as lighting built up around him. In a tremendous flash followed by a rumble of thunder, he was gone from view.

"Many try, trying is not enough." Said Virgil into the void.

Rob looked down at his hands as he sat on the red meadow. Kristoff was pushing Melissa on the swing gently. She held the bear tight as she gazed up into the air. Roth was stood to the side pondering. The others were gathered around, thoughtfully.

"I refuse." Rob said, standing upright.

Ari glanced over with a look of confusion.

"Refuse what?" He said inquisitively.

Rob yelled out in agony. All eyes were drawn to him.

"I refuse to believe this...nonsense! I am a respectable man with a quality education! Death is the end of it. There is no afterlife. And furthermore, I would remember. I would remember dying!"

He glared up at Roth, his eyes reddened.

"I would remember dying!"

Roth shook his head.

"You wouldn't. Your essence is shielding the memories. Partly that and partly this...place."

Boc shrugged his shoulders.

"What is this place."

Roth stared up at the red clouds.

"Purgatorio. It's just one big long test. There was never any path but forwards. We've been stuck on a pre-designed track. You couldn't have gone elsewhere. Even if you'd tried to run through the woodlands and find civilisation, there was none to be seen. This is a very large mountain but it is not infinite."

"Least of all the small scope created to test us."

Helios twitched a little. He'd given up arguing.

"Test?" He said wearily.

"That is what purgatory is. You died with unfinished business. Each of us were torn from the world before our time. From you and whatever dark history you have, to young Melissa here in her tender innocence. None of us were content or done with our lives."

"And so we take the ultimate test. We are forced to face our demons."

Jeff looked confused. "The shadows?"

"Precisely." Said Roth with a gentle smile.

"The darkness that surrounds us. The energy that blasted down onto us. Fear, dark memories. Everything that is attempting to bring us down. It wouldn't be so hard to face, had some of you not already succumbed to the darkness and embraced it. Those of you who have are embroiled in it. Destined to bring the rest of us down."

"And if we are brought down, there is no coming back."

Curtis looked down at his hands.

"Uhh...hate to break the obvious but I came back and so did looooooads of us."

Roth nodded.

"Even without the help of Melissa here that would have been the case. That's because this is the final realm. We are at the summit of the mountain. The Earthly Paradise."

The group took in the surroundings. It looked exactly like the meadow from before. Kristoff frowned.

"This is just the hill we used to come to. This is Melissa's Swing. I built it for her."

Roth nodded awkwardly.

"I'm afraid that the appearance of this journey was tainted a little by my presence. They were dead set on me taking it and facing my challenges."

"Well aren't you special priest man!" Said henry bitterly. "I want my own damn meadow party!"

Roth smiled gently.

"But I would not have made the climb without the help of you all. The darkness you faced was also your own turmoil. If we can survive this final moment together, we can make it beyond. To Paradiso. To the refuge of the just and the righteous."

"So the world isn't being blown to bits?" Said Ari curiously.

Roth frowned.

"Now that one, I'm not sure about. Virgil wasn't entirely straight with me. He told me that I was going to meet Kristoff here which wasn't a lie. He just neglected to tell me that our first meeting would be inside the mountain. Everything we experienced, from the motel to here has been within it."

"So what happens now?" Said Natalie, mesmerised.

"What happens now is we prepare to face darkness one final time. Stand united. Use everything you gained on our journey. And don't let them succeed."

The sky began to turn grey.

"Daddy...I'm scared..." Said Melissa, huddling tightly to Kristoff.

"It's okay...we can make it past this."

"I don't....feel....so....goood....."

Melissa stumbled backwards and fell to the ground.

"Melissa!" Kristoff yelled out in anguish.

As he looked down her body began to turn to dust. He glanced around at the black clouds engulfing the landscape. The dust span and turned into a dark torrent.

Helios jumped to his feet.

"If there's one thing I do know, it's how to fight."

Rob stood back, refusing to open his eyes.

"This is just some sort of hallucination unless....it was....it was me....the whole time...."

He glanced up in awe.

"It was me!" He said in shock.

Bryce frowned.

"Well yeah. Kind of obvious really."

Roth turned back.

"Stand close. They're coming....they're already amongst us. If we want to survive, go for the ones who you think have fallen already."

Phase 1:

Jeff stood with his back to somebody.

"Oh men oh men oh men!" He said excitedly.

"Fuck you too." Growled Ari, turning to face Jeff head on.

"No no no! I didn't mean to say that!" Said Jeff in exasperation. More of the figures turned to him in the dark torrent. Shapes in the night blasted energy across the sky.

"Careful!" Roth insisted.

Ari grabbed Jeff and pushed him to the ground.

"Boc....help me out here....."

Boc nodded and rushed over. Pinning Jeff down he smiled.

"You're making a...mi...stake...." Jeff pleaded.

Boc grinned. "Time to die Jeffrey!"

A loud bang filled the air.

His face turned a ghastly shade of pale. Looking down at his chest, there was a bullet hole. He clutched it nervously. Turning to face the shadows...he saw nothing.

Time to die Jeffrey

The words echoed on the wind.

"Jeffrey...." Boc said wearily.

Jeff nodded excitedly. "I'm right here!"

"No....no..." Boc said hoarsely.

"That...that was my name....I was Jeffrey.....Jeffrey Fernadis...."

Jeff looked puzzled. "But that is my name! Small world!"

Boc looked into the shadows.

"Bryce...Natalie...I remember you now...."

Natalie rushed over, looking confused.

"If you see Niney....if you make it past here...tell him I said hey...."

Natalie glanced up at Bryce. "Where do I know that name from?"

Boc smiled. "You'll know. Sorry we couldn't talk much Roth...tell my twinsie I said hey."

Roth's mind flashed back to an image of watching the twins enter the subway system on his computer. He nodded solemnly.

"It may not be too late..." He pleaded.

Boc shook his head.

"It is."

Boc's form shattered into dust which turned to darkness, joining the ever-growing cloud. The group huddled back together.

Phase 2:
"Do we just stand here and face the darkness!" Shouted Curtis, getting impatient.

"We have no choice. The darkness has enveloped us and some are already victim to it. They have been this entire time!" He had to yell to overcome the sound of a great wind that came with the torrent of darkness surrounding them.

"She was right here...." Kristoff murmured into nothingness.

Helios twitched and span onto a figure.

"You!" He shouted. Waving one good hand towards Drr.

"What?!" She insisted, nervously.

"Thought you could sneak by under the cover of darkness? Not a chance!" He pushed forth and sent her toppling to the floor. Henry jumped out of the shadows.

"Brrr....Forget Froken!" He declared. "The real enemy is..." He span his finger and pointed it at Rob. He was currenly sat on the floor, rocking back and forth, staring into the sky in a maddened terror.

"Hark! You're all wrong! I, Rito the Bito, shall show you the path to victory!" Rito rushed forth and was blocked by Curtis.

"Curses ye ginger fool! Do not apprehend Rito in his Bito adventure!"

"Uhhh. I just think we should go for somebody who hasn't said one single thing. Just in case."

Curtis grabbed Tayvie and flung him into the shadow. At the same time, Helios grabbed Drr and threw her down.

"So which one is evil?" Natalie asked weakly. "What if they're both good?"

Henry focused before spinning around and kicking Tayvie. "This one!"

"Rito agrees, to death with you!" Rito yelled, punching Tayvie repeatedly.

Dylan nodded, rushed forward and plunged a knife into his body. Groaning in agony.

"Why didn't you say anything?" He asked with a smile.

"I was never...I was never good at that. That's why I...why I died..."

Tayvie's vision went blurry for a brief second, he could see the impact of a metallic spike covered ceiling crush against his immobile skull.

And the body turned to dust. The storm began to grow in intensity.

"I don't think that was right at all!" Roth said in shock.

Phase 3:
"I think we need to run! We haven't hit a single shade yet!" Roth insisted.

"There's darkness all around. You keep saying it'll destroy us so where do we go?" Natalie said frantically. Roth stared into the dark clouds, deep in thought.

Standing upright, Rob clenched his fists.

"We kill one of them." He said firmly.

"No more mistakes..." Roth warned. Rob shook his head.

"I won't make one."

He picked himself up, charged into a figure and pinned it to the ground. It was Wikey. Wikey struggled under his grip as more joined to help pin him down.

"Dylan, stab away!" He yelled. Dylan shook his head.

"I'm not sure about this..." He murmured.

Roth walked over and glanced down at the struggling figure. His memory flickered and he remembered...

He remembered.....

His eyes lit with a fire.

"I am sure." He said coldly.

"Let him stand!" Roth yelled above the torrent of darkness. Wikey stumbled to his feet.

"In finding my redemption, it only stands to reason I would come across you." Roth glared at the trembling figure.

"We know...each other?" Wikey said, trembling. Roth shook his head.

"Don't pretend."

Wikey sighed.

"Fine I admit it. You got me. I wanted to make a clean break from it. I wanted to help. No I really did! And I did help! I only died trapping that thing!"

He pointed to Kristoff who snarled.

"So you're telling me there's no redemption for me? Nothing for poor Wikey and all the hardships he's being through?"

Roth sighed.

"There is redemption for everybody. You are a dark part of my memory. Maybe one of the darkest. What you did to me is hard to forgive. But it is not my place to judge. And I need to move on."

Wikey stood up trembling.

"I'm sorry...to those I hurt...but I swear it weren't me!" He said weakly.

Helios pushed him down.

"Shut the hell up. I'm remembering now. The fucking mime."

Wikey whimpered under the grip as Bryce's eyes opened wide. Rob frowned in thought as Helios hissed.

"You deserve to die."

Wikey sighed.

"I'm not your biggest problem though, I wanted to hel-"

Rito stood upright. He'd snapped the mime's neck in two. He grinned.

"That's how it's done!" He said excitedly.

Phase 4:
"Now!" Roth shouted.

The remaining group dashed as a small patch of light came through the clouds. They charged up the meadow which seemed to roll for an eternity. Roth paused, glancing around as some had become lost in the dark.

Ari was looking around wearily as somebody came up behind him. He span to face them but they were gone. Who was that? He turned around again and came face to face with Curtis who put his finger against his mouth. Reaching his arms out, Curtis glanced over his shoulder and pulled a figure to the ground.

"I got one!"

Writhing on the floor was Drr. Dylan and Dutchiee came over and glared down.

"We got one out of two last time and we probably picked the wrong one. Let's not make the same mistake twice."

Rob walked over and glanced down.

"You are." He declared.

Ari frowned.

"No...no this one I recognise."

Their faces turned to his.

"This one was a thief. Not particularly evil in life but who knows up here. We were stuck together...in a labyrinth..."

Drr's memory wandered to a bridge. She was hanging on as he threw her over the edge.

"The butcher!" She yelled. Roth's ears picked up.

"The what?" He demanded.

Vespis walked over and kicked her face, sending her tumbling into the darkness. He looked at the shocked faces and shrugged.

"Wasn't that the whole point?"

Phase 5:
"How Bito!" A voice shouted above the storm.

Helios shook his head.

"That does it."

He charged over and sent Rito scattering to the floor. He yelled out in agony.

"Unhand me at once. I am the saviour of the town!"

"You're a scummy piece of shit pushing a cheap gimmick and all you've done is try to confuse us and kill us and destroy us!"

Rito snarled. "Scum like you would hate my dilligent efforts!" He pushed, sending Helios toppling backwards.

There was a sudden tap on his shoulder.

A fist connected with his jaw very sharply. Rito fell to the floor, bleeding. His black cape torn.

"THIS IS NOT BITO! THIS IS REALLY NOT BITO!" He yelled in terror as Rob stood over him, blood on his fist. Natalie scuttled over.

"Are you sure this is right?" She said as Rob stood burning with rage.

"Let's find out!" He shouted, signalling Dylan over. Dylan grabbed his knife and plunged it into Rito's chest.

He lay there gurgling. Roth hobbled over, slightly confused.

"I don't think this is right..." He said.

Rito grinned, jumping to his feet. He took a dive forwards and kicked somebody in the back of the head. They fell to the ground unconscious as Rito grabbed Dylan's knife and plunged it into the fallen figure's back.

He held up his torn cape in disdain as the group looked on in confusion.

Smirking, Rito opened his shirt. Underneath was a piece of body armour.

"You won't defeat me so easily scummy fools! Not bito, not by a long shot!"

The figure on the ground gurgled as it looked up into the surrounding darkness. And slowly the appearance changed.

The group gasped as what used to be Jeff, now writhed around. Long tendril like shadowy arms clutched at the air as the figure hissed.

"We were so close....fuck you!" It hissed before dissolving.

The surrounding shadows thinned a little.

Phase 6:
"Did you think we'd forget about you? Now the armour is damaged what are you gonna do?" Helios said menacingly.

He marched towards Rito who fell to the floor, scuttling backwards and hissing.

"Rito is not done with his tricks yet! Just you see!"

"We have to move on! Forget it! We're thinning the shadows enough!" Roth yelled out.

Helios shrugged.

"First, business. Then we run."

Rob nodded, approaching the fallen figure before he felt a jolt of something run down his spine.

"GAH!" He yelled, falling to the ground and convulsing. Natalie and Ari rushed over to him. He was paralysed and unable to move. They turned to the crowd surrounding Rito.

"Rito Mito!" Henry said with a sly grin.

"Time to put you down for good jewbear cousin!"

There was a sickening fleshy sound. Natalie span around and gasped as Ari fell forward, covered in blood.

Roth dashed across and tried to help him up but Ari flopped down.

"I was....a twin too...once....."

He looked up at Roth.

"Maybe I'll....see my....twinsie too?" He asked hopefully.

Henry smoked a cigarette and looked on thoughtfully as he rushed over to a figure in the shadows.

He pulled Dylan out. He was carrying a bloodied knife.

Dylan fell to the ground and looked up at the angry faces.

"I just didn't want to screw up guys!" He said. Natalie caught his eye and a memory flashed into her head.

"...You..." She said coldly.

Ari's form faded into dust.

Phase 7:
Natalie pinned Dylan down in the torrential dark storm. Roth pleaded.

"I'm sure it was a mistake."

She shot a look.

"Do you know him?" She said.

Roth opened his mouth and closed it again with a sigh.

"Whatever he did to you Natalie...He didn't mean any wrong by it. It was for the good of everybody...in his mind. His mind was just in the wrong place. I judge people not on their pasts."

He glanced down at Dylan who had stood upright. Nobody else seemed to be helping this cause.

"We were good together. We travelled...and we worked well until...until I judged poorly and got him killed."

Natalie hissed.

"He got his own stupid self killed."

Dylan's mind was hazy. He was laying in an icy cold room, looking up. Bryce and Roth were stood over him. He blinked and focused back to where he was before jumping to his feet and running into the dark.

Roth sighed as he glanced over to the latest scuffle.

Rito was surrounded this time.

"Give it up you idiot. You made our journey hard for no reason. You're not possibly town."

Rito snarled as the group began to punch and kick him.

"Keep it up! Keep hitting me. It won't be bito!"

Helios screamed out into the night.

"STOP SAYING THAT SHIT!" He said frustratedly.

Vespis walked forward from the darkness.

"May I?" He asked.

Roth focused on the figure. So silent and pensive and...it was him wasn't it. It had to be.

"Rayne...." He said, blinking as the sleek figure pulled out a dagger. Suddenly there was an androgyny to it. The figure took the knife and plunged it into Rito's chest who wheezed in agony.

"You....you....."

Vespis grinned.

"I what?"

"You did it now...." Said Rito grinning.

"I might die....but I take the king of all the scum with me!"

Vespis blinked and pulled aside the remnants of the body armour. There was a bomb underneath.

"WHAT?!" He yelled into the shadows. The other figures had dashed away back to where Roth stood as Rito hovered his finger over a detonator with a smile.

"Boom...bito!"

And the darkness flashed with red light as the flames licked out above the explosive debris.

There was no Rito. There was still a figure there though. It was dark, corrupted and barely human. It glanced up. It had no power anymore.

"I knew you'd succumb to the darkness. What we had could've been good. But you were too hasty, as always."

Roth stepped away as the beast died and faded into dust.

Phase 8:
Natalie looked over. The dark clouds had thinned a little. Roth looked her in the eye.

"We're almost done. The shades are falling back. We're doing so well. Let's just run whilst we still can. If we can make the ascent...we can escape all this..."

Natalie glanced over and shook her head.

"Whether you like it or not, justice must be done."

Bryce brought Dylan over. He was kicking and struggling.

"Bryce...don't you remember....we were a team. Group B. We had adventures."

Bryce shook his head. "All I remember is you killing one of our friends. All I remember is you being a bastard."

Roth sighed.

"If you really think it must be done. I'm sorry Robert...But this world has different rules."

Robert shrugged. "Man whatever. I always thought you were kind of creepy anyway."

Rob walked over and held him down as Henry looked on curiosly.

"We sure are thinnin' out a bit. brrrrrr."

He said, shivering. He looked over at Patrick and ff_zero who were both stood silently.

"Yo, what you two staring at anyway?" He said waving his arm.

"I'll smash your faces in!"

They turned away nervously.

Rob held Dylan down and shook his head.

"Justice must be done..." He said, doubting the sentence. He pulled Dylan's knife out and plunged it into Dylan's body.

He croaked and looked upwards at Natalie's face, wearily.

"I...I just...wanted to help...."

She looked down coldly.

"Well, you didn't."

She walked away as his form turned to dust.

"Let's go."

Phase 9:
The figures ran across the meadow as Roth paused.

"Where's Kristoff" he asked, suddenly very concerned.

Their faces turned. Bryce was stood there, as was Natalie, Dutchiee, ff_zero, Patrick, Rob, Waka and Helios.

"Henry is gone too..." Waka said nervously.

Roth shook his head.

"I have to go back into the shadows to find him."

He dashed back as the others glanced over and followed. Helios rolled his eyes and joined. As Roth ran, he bumped into a figure.

Curtis was stood there awkwardly. He glanced over at the group.

"Uhh...what's happening?" He said.

Roth frowned. "Do I know you."

Curtis looked unsure. "We just travelled like, toooons of places."

Roth shook his head. "From somewhere else."

ff_zero grinned.

"I do."

The group turned to him.

"He's a waste of space. His name isn't Curtis either. It's Alex."

Natalie blinked and turned back to him.

"Oh." She said flatly.

Turning to the crowd she nodded.

"Let's go!" They agreed and dashed forward. Curtis followed last. As he did he felt a sudden cold sensation run up his body.

Blood splashed down to the floor.

Natalie stood over his fallen body, holding the bloody knife.

"Say what you will about redemption." She said, looking at the horrified faces.

"I've wanted to do that for a long long time..."

Phase 10:
"We have to stay strong! And losing somebody is not an option!" Roth yelled out.

Dutchiee called out into the fading wind.

"Why do you need this guy to come with us?"

Roth sighed.

"Because I can't complete my journey without him." He said flatly.

Natalie walked over and placed a hand on Roth's shoulder. He glanced across, wearily.

"Maybe you don't." She said re-assuringly.

"Maybe you just think you owe him something and you're keeping him around as a reminder. Maybe he's one of the shades. Just a manifestation of your guilt."

Roth blinked as the storm picked up.

"Let's head back." She said encouragingly.

Roth nodded. It seemed smart.

Rob stood with his arms folded as a figure crept around him. He lashed out quickly and threw it to the ground. Gesturing Natalie, she handed over the knife and Rob sliced into the air. Blood splattered over the floor.

"I take no chances." He said with a scowl.

On the floor lay the silent figure of Patrick. The last thing he remembered...was a big statue....coming down....whatever happened to that hatchet anyway...it was....urgghhh....

The figure crumbled into dust.

Rob looked back at the unsure faces.

"He was only holding us back!" He insisted.

Roth sighed. "That may as be the case but there are more evil ones than this one still out there."

Phase 11:
They dashed across the endless expanse of blood red meadow. Waka groaned.

"This thing never ends!" He yelled.

The others turned back. ff_zero appeared from out of the shadows, tailing everybody. Helios stepped forth.

"Who all is even here still?" He said looking at the faces.

Kristoff and Henry were still missing. Dutchiee was sat next to Bryce. And Natalie and Rob were right there.

"This is it?" He said bewildered.

Roth nodded.

"Worse still...I think Henry might be a shade. I think he's going to hit out when we least expect it..."

Rob shook his head.

"Perfect." He declared, miserably.

Roth looked up.

"I think he's the last of them though. So let's just stay on our guard. We don't know when they..."

He looked back. Two people were missing. Dutchiee and Waka were nowhere to be seen.

Roth looked behind him and in all directions. He glanced at Bryce, ff_zero, Helios and Natalie. They all shook their heads. Rob stared and shouted.

"WATCH OUT!"

A blast of energy slammed over their heads, missing them very slightly.

And a huge wave of dark figures marched forward. At the helm were two somewhat familiar ones. Waka and Dutchiee. Only their forms were corrupted and sinister looking. They grinned. Waka's form was covered in horrific armour that looked immensely powerful. Dutchiee was covered in a hooded cowl that sent shivers down their spines.

The shadow armada moved forth.

"This could be it..." Roth said nervously. Dutchiee raised his hand and shot forth a bolt of energy. It coursed into Helios, sending him onto the ground, yelling in horrendous agony.

And Natalie focused.

"Not today..." She whispered.

The sky filled with a bright light. It stunned the advancing crowd. Slowly, Helios rose from the floor and the group were back to where they were...sat around with Dutchiee and Waka still present.

She nodded at Rob who was dazed but shook it off. He grabbed Dutchiee, pushed him down and slashed the throat. Waka took off into the distance, shrieking in a horrible way.

Rob glanced over at Natalie.

"What did you do?" He enquired.

She smiled.

"I made things right."

Phase 12:
The six figures stood upright. The black fog had shifted considerably. In the distance, the foot of a staircase appeared. Roth gasped and ran towards it. It seemed distant...but it was there.

"I think...if we just make it to this staircase..."

The shadowy army moved forward. Waka was leading the forces in a full suit of evil looking armour. The group dashed over to the distance.

"Who was that one?" ff called across to Natalie. "Dutchiee I mean. Who was he...before all this...you know?"

She shrugged.

"I've never seen him before."

Roth sighed. "Some must do it alone. I can only imagine the pressure this brought on led to his fall into darkness. Such a loss."

Helios snarled. "He tried to kill us!"

Roth shrugged. "Maybe. Maybe he was really just doing what he thought he had to. Maybe it's not as straightforward as that."

He stopped.

Rob was stood alone, facing the oncoming army.

"Rob! What are you doing!" Natalie yelled. Bryce stepped forth and shook his head.

"You're gonna get killed!" He insisted.

Rob smirked and looked back.

"I was convinced I was a high class psychiatrist. I could analyse people and this situation was just nonsense. I felt it. It seemed like a stupid fantasy."

He looked down at his trembling hands.

"But then I realised...up here...not long back. I saw a vision of myself. My mind has been protecting itself in the best way possible."

He looked over at the shadowy figures.

"You owe me an apology old man for firing the gun at me."

Roth blinked.

"I don't know how to use a gun."

Rob shot a look backwards. "I meant the turret gun."

"It stands to reason that a certified psychopath would protect his remaining mind and memory by masking himself as the doctor. But in reality, I was just a madman."

He grinned.

"And it's time to let all hell loose."

He turned to the shadowy crowd and ran forward. Clashing full bodily with Waka, he held his ground.

"You won't scare me! I've fought worse than you! I was a lot scarier than you...once...."

He pushed hard and Waka fell backwards, stumbling slightly. As he did, the shadow figures dispersed.

"All just a clever illusion isn't it. You have no power over those of us left. We're way too strong minded."

Waka snarled.

"We had a great deal more power than you think. We just...it just.....I don't know what went wrong...."

Rob shook his head.

"Too late for remorse. Time for redemption."

He punched Waka in the face and then grabbed his fallen sword in two hands. Holding it high, he cleaved the head from the body. Waka crumbled into dust without any hesitation.

And the black fog lifted.

Phase 13:
Rob pulled himself upright. He glanced around. The air was clear.

"Did we win?"

Roth shook his head.

"We don't win until we climb that staircase...I still feel as though there's a hidden danger."

Rob shrugged. "I feel victorious."

As they walked away, Roth spoke again.

"So...you were ublazrob...in the labyrinth...I am sorry that I shot you. But you were evil."

Rob shrugged.

"Define evil. I never killed anybody in there. Though I probably would've done. Maybe. I hadn't decided yet."

Roth slumped down and spoke with a weariness.

"I didn't want to hurt Wikey. I thought that maybe there was still something good there. We travelled together so far...and I heard bad things about you."

Rob spat onto the meadow.

"Whatever. Ancient history now. Maybe we should move already?"

He picked himself up and walked over to the staircase. It ascended upwards to a basin, containing the source of a great golden river. Glancing down mesmerised, Roth paused.

"This doesn't feel right." He said firmly.

Turning back to the meadow he looke down as a mass of shadow emerged on the horizon. Slowly the red field became engulfed in more darkness. He turned back up to the five others.

Rob glanced over to Natalie.

"Shall we give them everything we have?"

She nodded.

Roth looked from one to the other. "You have a plan?" He said curiously.

Natalie pulled an explosive device from her backpack and flung it forth into the shadows. It gave rise to a huge explosive force that echoed into smaller explosive forces. As she did, Rob raised a huge staff upright.

Roth stared mesmerised as the staff shone forth a tremendous bright light. And slowly in the realms of the shadows emerged spirits...the forms of many of the fallen friends. There was Dylan, Drr, Curtis, Tayvie, Ari, Rito, Patrick, Boc. They all marched into the shadows and blasted out a tremendous and powerful energy.

"There's one last person I don't trust..." Muttered Rob. Natalie nodded. The two of them grabbed ff_zero and flung him into the shadows.

"NO DON'T!" He screamed as he fell forth. His memory flashed back to falling into a vast pit of lava, much in the same way.

And his form was consumed by the shadows.

The ground began to rumble as the shadows moved wildly. The figures of their friends disappeared as the shadows moved wildly towards them.

"That wasn't right!" Roth yelled.

Results:
Vote count
ff_zero - 12
Rob - 4
Henry - 2
Natalie - 1

(*Note, I discounted votes from players who didn't submit a separate phase 13 list. More to come on this decision after the game)

Conclusion: ff_zero killed by 12 votes

Role Title: Medic

Ability:
If a player is killed during the game, you may choose to revive them only on the same phase. This can be done twice during the game. In addition to this, you can select a player each phase to "save". That player will not be killed during the final showdown for that phase.
