Chapter 1
No Room for the Clown
"You have got to be kidding me, right? I booked my room six months ago!" Lucky tapped his giant plastic shoe impatiently. This was ridiculous! He'd been looking forward to the convention since it was announced, and he was
not about to be told his room had been given up.
The clerk made a fake sympathetic face. "I understand that, Mr... Star, but when you book with us through a third party affiliate, you sign a contract that agreeing that our Loyalty Reward members will have first priority in terms of availabilities. Unfortunately that has happened. We're all booked up for the next several days. Did you not read the terms of agreement on... CheapHotelz.com?"
Lucky was shaking in anger, his painted white face beginning to match the color of his nose attachment. "What the
fuck is the point of making a reservation if nothing is actually reserved for me?!"
"Sir, I understand your frustration and I'm going to do what I can to help you out, but if you curse at me again I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
"Okay, okay, sorry. What can you do for me?"
The clerk, whose name tag read
Jeremy: Helping You Since 2013, looked intently at his screen and begun tapping on the keyboard with surprising speed. "I'll check nearby hotels, I should be able to find something..."
Lucky took this time to look around the main lobby. It had a classy, modern design to it. Sleek gray fixtures adorned the walls, and there was a lounge area with expensive looking chairs and coaches. The guests ranged in appearance; there looked to be some businessmen, a touring family or two, and what looked to be a few students huddled together. It didn't really seem like the hotel got booked by a lot of convention attendees and for a brief second Lucky worried about the attendance of the convention.
Lucky turned back to Jeremy who suddenly sported a frustrated look on his face. "Ooookay. I've checked a few, and everyone seems to be booked for some reason.. There's still one more hotel I can check." Lucky rolled his eyes. His ClownCon 2015 trip definitely wasn't going as well as he'd planned.
His thoughts drifted to his parents, and how smug they'd feel right now if they knew his current situation.
"Harry, why didn't you stay home and help with the family business? We have a room you can stay in!" He could almost hear his mom's nagging New York accent now. She knew why he didn't stay home. He didn't want to be a part of the family business. Clowning was his true passion! They never understood.
Jeremy nervously cleared his throat which pulled Lucky out of his daydream.
"I'm... truly sorry, sir, but I can't seem to find any availabilities at any hotels in this town... There's nothing I can do."
"Fuuu- Ugh.." Lucky was pissed. He should've known nothing would go right. He had to consider his options. First he'd demand his money back, of course. But the more pressing issue would be where he'd stay while in town. He knew there was some sort of app people use to let people crash at their apartments, but he was kinda nervous to try that... Aunt Becky was always an option, she would love to have him stay with her. But she'd tell his mom, and that could get really messy.
The elevator dinged and the busboy that was inside rushed over to Jeremy and whispered something into his ear. Lucky wasn't paying attention as Jeremy's eyes widened and whispered something back. He shooed the busboy back towards the elevator. "Go! Take care of it. I'll be there soon." Lucky looked up.
"Actually... Sir, Mr. Lucky, it looks like we're having a guest check out earlier than expected! We'll be able to have a room for you! It will take us a few hours to get the room ready for you, but we can hold your bags here and you can explore the city a bit before checking in. Would that work for you?"
-----------
Should Lucky stay at the hotel?
A ) Yes! Hand over the bags and go check out the city. Maybe grab a bite to eat or scope out the convention hall.
B ) Yes! Something weird is going on, though. Demand to look at the room first, just in case.
C ) No! Get your money back and take your chances with a couch-surfing app.
D ) No! Get your money back and give Aunt Becky a call. Maybe you can use the hotel money to bribe her into not telling mom.
----------
Okay, so the way I'm going to do this is to count all YES responses together and all NO responses together. Whichever one has the most total votes will decide whether Lucky stays at the hotel (so basically (A+B) VS (C+D). Once that's decided, whichever option received the most votes between the two sub-options will be Lucky's official response.
SORRY that I am really slow with this update. I have a weird block when it comes to writing and it takes me a long time to get through it. Coupled with the fact that this is a pretty busy month for me (car/apartment shopping + lots of family coming to visit) makes it a little harder to find the time for this. But I'll try my best.
