It is for the best Lamps, I don't think anybody should be travelling anywhere for the time being. My dad is going on a ferry to the Netherlands this week lol...
The preparations for this, and the measures already taken in some countries such as Italy suggest that this is far worse than the numbers currently indicate. I don't really get what's going on, so few are dying, but we're acting like it's the new Spanish Flu.
I'm not being callous, it's shit if anyone dies of this, but the response seems completely overblown...unless it's much more serious than we realise. Maybe they're concerned about the possibility of it mutating? Am I missing something here?
Just been to the supermarket, on the way in three people walked out with multiple bags of toilet roll. Meanwhile the shelves are full to the brim with tinned food and other things that might actually be useful to stock up on!
I passed by the TP section on the way round, and the aisle was blocked with people watching in awe as the staff unloaded more rolls onto the shelves. Couldn't help laughing. I went and bought some beer instead. I want to have a good time when the apocalypse hits.
There are zero confirmed cases in my town btw, so it's really hard for me to appreciate the severity of this. There was one known case last week, so I don't know what happened there.
The only signs that something is amiss is the panic buying of toilet roll and pasta. Otherwise we're all going about our normal day.
My dad had to cancel his trip lol. Netherlands is on lockdown.
(Also, that wasn’t meant to sound condescending because I think you are well aware of what’s happening lol)
Ha don't be so sure, yesterday I was still trying to tell myself this is nothing and that the whole world has been swept up by hysteria. Finally facing the facts today.
But yes, I get you. And I agree, there is almost certainly a lot of people in my town who have it and are undiagnosed. Given the incubation period, I might have it right now!
I guess what I was saying is that it hasn't hit home how serious this is because I'm personally not facing the reality of it yet.
It's starting to get real though. We're getting daily updates from the PM now. We've been advised today to avoid all non-essential social contact. We're in an advisory lockdown I suppose, compared to the strictly enforced ones elsewhere.
There doesn't appear to be a consensus yet on whether reinfection is a thing or not, at least from what I've read.
If it is a thing, does that mean developing herd immunity is a viable strategy?
Thinking about it, maybe it's another indication that it's the best way. The more chance the virus has to mutate, the worse it could potentially get. Better to try and get the majority immunised now. I think that's the idea right?
I think it's the only option, other than a total and indefinite quarantine...we won't be seeing a vaccine for a long time.

That assumes it's something to which an immunity can be built, though. With news reports out of China claiming a 14% reinfection rate, I think it would be incredibly irresponsible to assume that, even if it ends up being the case.
Perhaps. Some have been describing the strategy over here as high risk, high reward.
Personally I'm not sure any of the alternative plans are better.
Pretty sure the government made a similar announcement about low level crime here too. Madness.
The supermarkets are emptying here now. Took a trip to three of them yesterday, it was quite bizarre. Luckily I bought some of the stuff I really wanted in a few weeks ago.
The ASDA near me are now that desperate for staff that they are forgoing their usual interview process and basically employing anybody who turns up with ID. Four weeks worth of work on minimum wage. I'm tempted to apply tbh.
