I would say it depends where in Scotland.

I would say that the further north it is the less chance you would have.

To be honest, just because I am further up North than anyone else from the UK, I know just as much as Paul on the matter, if not less. But my northern pride didn't allow me to admit it.

I have been to Scotland once, and the furthest I went was Perth. Perth was a nice place, very friendly atmosphere and not unlike an above average English town. Aberdeen is further up North but it is on the coast, so I am guessing that it isn't that insular. I'm making the assumption that any place with a port is more open to new folk.
