Just seen it, very good. Is it just me or is the butchers shop the same building as the insurance place?
Also, I liked the use of that War of the worlds tune at the end. Felt like it was a link to the UFO from ep 1. |

The past few episodes have really kicked things up a notch! Easily some of the most tense scenes I've ever seen in this show full stop.
It's been a good follow up season, the only complaint I could make being that I don't feel very invested in the characters.
Maybe its just me but I don't find myself rooting for Ed & Peggy like I did Lester. (which is odd because they have much more understandable motives). I have the same problem with Lou & Betsy. Cool characters, but I don't care about them anywhere near as much as I did Molly or Gus in season 1.
I'm not saying that I don't feel anything for them at all, its just there is a significant difference compared to the cast of season 1 for me. |

Pretty much summed up why I love this show!
The opening segment and the continued narration throughout the episode was the greatest. And I had no idea it was Martin Freeman until I saw you guys pointing it out! That makes it even better!
On the UFO...It has been a running theme throughout the season, but it was still surprising for it to show up at such a pivotal moment and influence the story in such a direct way. Though when thinking about it, it shouldn't be. It has already played a major part in the narrative, when it distracted Rye Gerdhart so much that he got ran over by Peggy. Most of the mayhem that has ensued since is a direct result of that.
So I'm glad it showed up again. It actually feels like it might signify something now, rather than just being random bullshit. I feel like some point is being made. This crazy otherworldly thing started the story off, and it also indirectly saved Lou from certain death, a character we already know is supposed to survive. Maybe the UFO represents the writers?
Or, a less pretentious explanation...the aliens are trolling Fargo for shitz n gigz.
Whatever the case, it's fun. I think that's what I like most about this show, it doesn't take itself too seriously. |

This last stretch of episodes has radically altered my opinion of this season in general.
Whilst it has been good all the way through, it's only now that I can say it's been great. I'd still rank S1 higher, like I reckon most of us probably would, but there isn't as much between them as there was before for me. | |

^ If they escalate from the UFO to this then I'd say they are going too far! Otherwise, awesome! |

Ditto on the chase sequence at the start. The driver getting shot and Hanzee's dive instantly reminded me of No Country For Old Men. I liked how they cut off the whole sequence unexpectedly by having Peg hallucinate and Hanzee run away. I guess he wasn't that bothered about killing them after all!
Betsy's dream was my favorite part of the episode. War Pigs was a great choice for the music.
Very good season! |

In an effort to get my parents into this show, I got them to watch Season 2. They tried watching Season 1 before but they found it too weird. However they loved Season 2, and after giving Season 1 another chance they found it a lot better. Unusually, the season with a freaking UFO in seems to be the most accessible of the two.
Anyway, I took the opportunity to rewatch both seasons. I really enjoyed it! This show has a ton of rewatch value.
Overall I'd say both are pretty evenly matched.
I think the story in season 2 is better. It's more focused. Every individual plot is centered around a common theme and they all converge in the final few episodes. Whereas season 1 had a few stories which felt isolated from the rest of the action. The Stavros storyline for example. That whole arc had no bearing on the main story, and there wasn't really a conclusion.
The advantage Season 1 has though, is it's characters. Lester and Malvo were amazing villains, some of the best on TV, and Molly, Gus and Lou were great too. I said before that I cared more for the characters of Season 1, and that hasn't changed after the rewatch.
Also, I watched the movie last night. The series seems to have taken everything good about it and amplified it. It was good. I had no idea the show was supposed to be a direct sequel to the movie, so you can imagine my surprise when:
|
Steve Buscemi buried the money in the snow, which Stavros finds in the series. |
It actually made that whole storyline make a bit more sense. I wonder if the show will ever revisit characters from the movie. That could be cool...but it could also suck.
