I've had my Mac for over 5 years. I had a Dell laptop before that which was around $1000 as well and it worked great... for like 2 years, after that it was total shit. I haven't had any issues with my macbook pro. I did have to get a new battery installed last year, but that was about it. Oh, and the chargers aren't all that sturdy if you aren't careful which I had to learn the hard way, but that's about it.

I've had my MacBook Pro for 7 years and it's beginning to slow down, get's hot at times, some letters don't work and it freezes up on the internet sometime so I think I should get a new one since I'm starting a one year paralegal program and need to do a lot of work. I think I might get another Macbook Pro but it isn't exactly cheap. Anyone have any other suggestions? Mostly going to be for schoolwork, watching shows and occasional editing of videos, etc (want to learn).

Considering the fact that if I just went with it that I'd buy another MacBook, let's go up to $1500
