Tragedy has struck. I have two 360s, an elite at my mom's and an original launch version at my dad's. While I only recently got the elite a year ago, the original has been my friend for years. This morning, when I attempted to put in my new Ghosts game that I got for Christmas but haven't had the opportunity to play, the drive would not open and instead gave a menacing growl. Frantic, I checked every solution the internet had to offer before realizing there was only one way to save my friend; an operation. With my scalpel Torx #10 in hand, I got to work, delicately screwing and prying my way into the inner bowels of Sparky (I realized that a console so near death deserved a name). Finally, I reached to area of concern; the disk drove. With the precision of a hawk, I went to work, cleaning out the many cogs and bands that allowed the drive to function. When I was finished there, I put Sparky back together again. The drive now works (but only when Sparky is on his side, the poor bastard can't even stand!) but it takes a long while to read and play a disk. Sparky is at the end of his life, and your thoughts and prayers are helpful in this awful time. |
