Finished the other day, binged through it real fast

It was solid! I was SHOCKED that Jason Bateman died right away, I thought he was gonna be the co-lead. I like that they got someone high profile for that role, that was a good diversion
I think the first half was much better than the second. Around episode 5 you sorta learned everything you were gonna learn about Cuco so the back half turned into a lot of stalling to get to the climax. I think it could've been a few episodes shorter for sure. But boi was the climactic fight pretty good. They had so many characters just hanging around together those last few episodes, you just knew shit was gonna pop off and bodies were gonna start to drop. That was a tense scene, even if it was full of idiots who all got themselves killed. Minus the mustached PI who never stood a chance
The Cuco climax in the cave wasn't as good as the shootout unfortunately. Gave me True Detective S1 climax vibes but obviously only a small percentage as good
Still a worthwhile watch, I enjoyed it enough |

I agree with you about how surprised I was with how quickly Jason Bateman's character died. I thought he was going to be a main player. Also felt the same in that the first half was better than the last half. I definitely chilled on being excited about it as it went on. That being said, some of it was so brutal. Jack Hoskins getting beat up by his "mother." Can't remember his name, but really brutal scene.
Also, I really love Ben Mendelsohn's character and I've always been a fan of Mare Winningham.
I guess I thought the ending seemed a bit too easy and was really sad about Derek Cecil's character dying.
Some really good creepy scenes, esp with the hooded person sitting in the dining room talking to Mare Winningham's character. |
