I'm hesitant to give this an actual "like" on letterboxd but regardless it's probably going to be one of the higher entries on this list. |

That p much sums up my exact feelings about it. I bumped it up to a 3.5 recently but tbh it should probably be higher just for how much of an EFFECT/imprint it made on me. One of the most displeasurable movies I've ever watched but def one of the most memorable |

It’s super interesting to hear your thoughts on this one, because I was really disappointed watching it. Might have been the situation (tipsy and on a projector with friends), but i didn’t feel any of the tension. The idea was cool, but it felt like there was no emotion beneath it and so I felt cold the whole time. Idk. Maybe I’ll give it another go since I’m hearing positive reviews.

well you have a good excuse to watch it again cuz this time you could watch the US shot-for-shot remake by the same director! (: Which is actually the one I watched, but from what I've read there's virtually no difference (content or quality-wise)
tbf I am farrr from a horror aficionado but MOST horror movies I've watched just are scary/disturbing in the moment but kinda leave me as soon as I'm done watching. But this one really got under my skin and stuck with me. Possibly because of the relative lack of violence and the fact that it was all centered around psychological horror? More than anything it was the feeling of dread and inevitability that made it so effective, the one moment where you get some HOPE for the usual respite gets quickly snuffed out, and like Jacob said even openly MOCKS you for it. Which was quite the risk tbh and could've easily robbed the movie of all its tension but somehow worked imo |

Also I watched a side by side of the shot for shot remake and....why? Especially since it's the same director. Super weird but whatev

I read that his entire reason for doing it was so that it'd actually be seen by a wider audience. Def seems like it'd be mind-numbing to literally recreate everything shot-for-shot instead of reshooting the same script and doing some things at least slightly different. BUT HEY! | |
