Split it right down the middle and gave it a 6. A few scenes impressed me, mostly the ones that have been mentioned: the return to the club, the piano scene, and the shootout/apartment scene
Overall the movie didn't quite come together for me, and definitely dragged in the beginning for the most part. The gimmick worked for the movie and against it really, it made it much more of an EXPERIENCE, but it also felt weird cuz I kept thinking to myself "she literally met this guy an hour and a half ago", especially during the hotel scene where she was breaking down/almost stayed too long. The timing of everything just felt odd/rushed because of that (for obvious logistical reasons, cuz this movie would've been like 5+ hours long if they wanted to make it more realistic in that aspect)
It's impressive what they did with the true one-shot take, but it worked better for a movie like Birdman even though in that one it was artificially stitched, just cuz they had the luxury of using time lapses etc
But ya, 6 about sums it up for me. Definitely don't regret watching it cuz I did like some parts, but wouldn't see it again |
