after bouncing between the beginning of a few different classic shows looking for one to commit to I started this up and am instantly HOOKED. Through the first 4 eps now
Cooper's instantly one of my favs, I love how weirdly enthusiastic he is about everything, like the pie and coffee
The show's a lot funnier than I thought it'd be tbh, I expected it to be a lot heavier on the horror/surrealism front. Though I could see that become more prevalent as it goes on
Excited to eventually get to The Return which I've heard hyped so much

Season 1 dun. Considering this is a 30 year old show I'm not gonna spoiler tag my thots (:

OH NO COOPER!!! I like how the description for the S2 premiere is literally just "Agent Cooper continues his investigation"
Even though directors typically mean far less on TV than movies, man did Lynch's episodes nail the tone better than the rest. Not that the other eps weren't good but his really toed down the line of like...surrealism vs cheese perfectly
So...it seems like Laura's murder is solved? But not really? I'm a bit confused what's left to wrap up tbh. Jacques SEEMED to give quite the exposition dump!
It's still remarkable how modern this show seems, it really does feel like something I could see dropping on HBO today. The tone feels so postmodern, must've been wild having this air in a time well before prestige TV was really an established thing

Leland's had two of the best scenes so far easily. His crying scene at the Lodge where the hosts bizarrely try to pass it off as a new dance in front of the Icelanders, and the scene in the S2 premiere where he starts breaking into song after his hair's turned white. What a guy!
I am so confused on why cousin Maddie is...there. Like they kinda addressed the fact that she looks EXACTLY like Laura but I feel like there's a lot more to delve into there unless it's supposed to be some kind of gag? I did love her snapping her glasses in half in the S2 premiere for seemingly no reason
"...I love you, Sheriff Truman." - Albert. One of the most unexpected monologues I've ever seen

so is Leland THE killer or was that just BOB working through him for this one? I assume the latter
That was somethin. Poor Maddie :(

also every Nadine scene makes me immensely uncomfortable. Exponentially so ever since she snapped out of her coma and thinks she's back in high school. Where the hell is THAT plotline going!

welp not even halfway through S2 and the show's pretty much been resolved! (: Gonna be vry interesting to see where they take it from here (I mean besides the obvious chasing after...an evil spirit), I assume this is where the show started to lose people. We'll see!
Definitely didn't expect the case to end up being solved by gathering every suspect in an emptied bar in order to re-induce a forgotten dream. DEFINITELY not! tbh as silly as it was I didn't mind it but I do wish it would've went on for longer. Felt so abrupt for pretty much the climax of the show, or at least the initial mystery of the show
I'm mostly upset that Cooper's likely gonna be out of the picture now :( Although I wouldn't be surprised if they find a reason to keep him around

Denise: "I may wear a dress now, but I still put my panties on one leg at a time, if you know what I mean."
Cooper: "Not really!"
hardest I've laughed at this show yet, I fucking love Cooper
been interesting to get a glimpse of how an early 90s show handles a transgender character. Don't think it aged too horribly tbh. Coop ofc was instantly accepting

it took some getting used to but it's become kinda endearing how the show has like...3 whole songs it cycles between. There's like a sad, mysterious, and goofy theme and that's p much it

S2 DONE
honestly? Not bad at all! I can see why people say the show goes downhill after the Leland reveal, and I definitely agree to an extent, but I still found it a fun time if a BIT stretched out and lacking in atmosphere. Windom Earle was...fine, Annie was fine (lol she looks younger than Audrey who Coop turned down for being too young), the James stuff was really dull. But those are the only real weak spots to me. I actually loved the wacky Ben Horne stuff with him turning over a new LEAF, complete with civil war reenactments and carrots subbed in for cigars. Very silly/fun
I knew when I saw "Directed by David Lynch" pop up on the finale I was in for a TREAT. The Black Lodge sequence was great. And that CLIFFHANGER! Wowee
Did Audrey fucking DIE?? Sure seemed like everyone in that bank blew up. That'd be v sad! She's one of my fav characters for sure. Why couldn't it at least have been Catherine who opened that safe deposit :(
Can't wait to dive into FWWM/The Return. If that was the "worst" the series has to offer I'm p excited

liked FWWM quite a bit! Very different from the show (a lot darker for sure) but definitely not in a bad way imo. The sudden R-rated elements really didn't feel out of place at all
First half hour with the two FBI agents was definitely the weakest part but it had its moments, the bizarro Twin Peaks was kind of a fun idea. But man as soon as it cut to Twin Peaks itself and Laura's theme started playing I felt weirdly NOSTALGIC despite it having been like two days since I'd last watched an ep
finally got context (...kinda) to the pointy-nosed guy, that was like the one image from the show I'd seen before and I was waiting for it to pop up throughout the whole first two seasons
Sheryl Lee KILLED it, like I'm surprised she didn't have more of a career after that. I didn't even mind the lack of Cooper at a certain point. Her and Ray Wise's performances really helped make the story feel EARNED rather than just a paint-by-numbers telling of what we already knew
Definitely not an easy watch knowing what was coming and they did NOT hold back. Think the ending gave decent closure (to Laura at least) so should be interesting to see what The Return does with her (if anything)

lol Lynch's gloves are OFF this season, he's really not shy about his prolonged silences. The show in general feels so different in tone, more dry humor and less soapy drama. Not sure if I love the shift but I'm still def drawn in. I think the lack of music definitely plays a huge role in that tone shift too
I miss the Black Lodge dwarf, he was always the best part of those scenes. Guessing he's dead irl? But if they were gonna replace him, I suppose it might as well be with a talking tree. Sure!
The Dougie stuff is pretty funny but BOY am I waiting for the payoff to that. I miss the real Coop :(
Hawk and Shelly win the award for most graceful aging
Kind of wild seeing so many new locations pop up when before the show was pretty much entirely confined to one location. Very intrigued on what the payoff to all those different mini plotlines is gonna add up to

lol go read about why they replaced him with a tree. Wild story. Him and Lynch had beef so Lynch said fuck you, I’m replacing you with a tree |
lol I'm looking forward to catching up on all these anecdotes after I'm done. But too paranoid of spoilers to look at anything yet
That's so sad about Shelly :( Would've never guessed from her here

still miss the old Coop but I think I've been Stockholm'd into loving Dougie. His scenes are still the best part of every ep
I really thought THE moment of realization came when his ears sort of perked up at the piano player, but alas. I KNOW that moment is coming eventually. It HAS to!
sidenote: Jim Belushi is doing a great John Goodman impression here. I've actually been enjoying him
