Finally starting on this after wanting to watch for a while. Really liked the first two episodes
|
I knew the concept of the show going in but it was a bit JARRING going from one episode that was fairly grounded in reality to one which was much more speculative sci-fi. Definitely keeps things FRESH tho
Both eps have been great but I think I liked the second a bit better, seemed more fleshed out. And this show clearly doesn't shy away from dark endings, I was really hoping Bing was gonna somehow save his girlfriend when he got back into Hot Shot. That was so sad :( |

god what an unlikable douche that main character was, even if he was right in the end. Total contrast to the main from last episode (: Honestly I thought they could've done something better with the concept though instead of a weaker version of Eternal Sunshine. Like make a crime thriller or something?? It was decent though
It's gonna be hard for this show to measure up to 1x02 honestly, although I haven't heard much about the next 2 seasons other than Shut Up and Dance(?) is supposed to be really good. WE'LL SEE WE'LL SEE |

That was so fucked up. Like what the prisoner did was terrible, but she didn't even REMEMBER it. She's arguably not even the same person. So even though her 'past' self was capable of doing that, there's no guarantee she'd ever do something like that again without any memories of her past leading up to it and now that she no longer knows the boyfriend
I wasn't that into it for the first half of the episode, even though it seemed like an interesting concept (all the people silently staring out the windows was creepy af) but that twist is what sold it for me. That was flawlessly executed. And the scenes throughout the credits of the cheery theme park-like atmosphere was the icing on the cake
so far:
15 Million Merits > White Bear > Be Right Back > National Anthem > Entire History of You |

I guess I know where all the "This was the scariest episode of Black Mirror yet" comments this election season came from (: That was almost eerily accurate, especially considering it aired in 2013
Other than being prophetic though I wasn't a huge fan of the ep. Probably the weakest so far
Did love this line tho: "If that thing is the main opposition then the whole system looks absurd. Which it may well be – but it built these roads." |

EDIT: the one where they rate ppl!!
lol there were so many similarities to Community's MeowMeowBeenz episode that I almost wonder if the writers saw that and decided to do a serious take on it. Although I guess it's not too unlikely of a concept to think up independently
Good ep though! One of the better character arcs the show's had for sure. Bryce Dallas Howard was fantastic in the wedding breakdown scene
The sad/scary thing is this was probably the most believable of all the episodes so far. It was only a couple steps removed from the Facebook effect really
1. Fifteen Million Merits
2. White Bear
3. Nosedive
4. White Christmas
5. Be Right Back
6. National Anthem
7. Entire History of You
8. The Waldo Moment |

For JJ: it's the one where they go to digital heaven!!
god that was a great episode. A Black Mirror episode without a depressing ending waaaat
I was really enjoying it at face value just for the relationship drama at the beginning, but as they started to reveal the twist it just got that much better. The writing is pretty fantastic when it comes to exposition on this show. I was kind of dreading the information dump that was coming once it became clear that there was something off, but they parsed it out really well and never beat you over the head with it
Perfect song choice at the end too
1. San Junipero

I may have been a tad overhyped for this, since this was the only episode I had heard anything about going into the show (I just knew it was good tho, didn't know the concept. I thought it was gonna be about dancing!). I liked it a lot tho. Similar to Nosedive, it was quite the JOURNEY
Definitely didn't see that twist coming (although I'm not really sure it added much beyond the shock value. Made more sense why the kid was willing to go to such lengths to prevent it from leaking though). I assume that's the twist JJ was talking about? Maybe you shouldn't answer that tho (:
The kid was really good in it, even stole the show away from BRONN. The bank robbery scene might be my favorite scene from the ep, his anxiety was so palpable and believable |

there were no child molesters in the episode so I wasn't even sure that WAS what JJ was referring to |

I didn't really expect the last two eps to live up to San Junipero, but damn those were (relatively) weak. I did like the last one better but it mostly felt like a crime procedural with a more interesting concept. And that ending was BOOLSHIT! I usually don't mind those somewhat ambiguous endings that cut off before we see the final confrontation, but that one didn't feel warranted/earned at all. I feel like getting to see Blue and him exchange words before she offs him (presumably) would've elevated the episode for sure
wut a disturbing concept though, that scene in the safe house bathroom was genuinely intense

The second half was more of a road trip movie if anything, it was my favorite part of the episode easily. The first half was necessary set-up but mostly wasn't very engrossing

I'm really curious to see the rest of Zersch's rankings now. P interesting, not what I would've expected
At least we can all agree on Waldo tho (: Though I still gotta at least give that one credit for being so prescient even if the execution was meh
