Hannah and Mary Beth ran side-by-side as the mall began to crumble beneath their feet. They dashed for the ladder with all the speed they could muster, seemingly every step sending another tile tumbling down to the roaring creek below. All it took was one misstep for their lives to hang in the balance.
Mary Beth fell to the ground as the section of floor beneath her began to bend downwards. She desperately clawed at the slippery tiled surface to keep herself from falling into the rushing water below.
"HANNAH! HELP!" Mary Beth cried out.
It was the first time during their entire stay here where Mary Beth didn't sound like a snobby prick. Hannah hesitantly stopped running and turned around to see Mary Beth slowly slipping down towards the creek.
"You know how much I fucking despise you, right?" Hannah asked.
"Please, Hannah. Let's set our differences aside, just for a fucking moment."
Hannah paused and contemplated, as Mary Beth stuck out her hand while her other narrowly gripped onto the end of the broken floor.
"Please." Mary Beth said earnestly.
"Ugh. I can't fucking believe this shit." Hannah said as she stuck out her hand and grabbed Mary Beth just before she lost her grip.
Hannah tugged on the large "girl's" arm with all her might and pulled her up to safety.
"Thank you." Mary Beth smiled.
"Don't mention it. Now let's get out of here." Hannah responded breathlessly.
"I don't think you're going anywhere!" Mary Beth smiled.
Before Hannah could respond, Mary Beth pulled out a dagger and jammed it through Hannah's heart. Blood spurted from Hannah's mouth as she began to stumble backwards.
"You...fucking...bitch..." Hannah spat as she wavered perilously close to the edge of the hole in the floor.
"Shhhh. It'll all be over soon." Mary Beth said smugly as she gave Hannah a firm kick to the stomach.
Hannah toppled backwards and fell, before her lifeless body was whisked away by the rushing creek below. All the while, Mary Beth gazed down happily with her hideous smirk. She dusted off her hands and continued towards the ladder. |

Sally and Billy sprinted towards the ladder as the last of the mall began to succumb to the creek. Billy clumsily stumbled into nearly every object in his way, but somehow, he made it. The two clambered up the ladder and onto the roof.
They looked out to see the sun start to rise over the distant snow-covered hills. The moment was interrupted when Billy awkwardly tapped on Sally's shoulder.
"H-hey Sally. While we have a moment...would you like to look over my notes? I...I've never let anyone look at them before...but I'm willing to make an exception. I think you'll find them QUITE revealing!" Billy smiled.
"I'd love to look them over, Billy," Sally smiled back as she extended her hand. Billy happily ruffled through his backpack and pulled out a humongous binder of notes and handed them over.
Sally looked at them in awe. Not a single inch of paper had been wasted. Every action, every word, every detail of everything that had happened since the fateful day they'd been locked in this mall had been meticulously documented. Sally knew there was only one thing she could do.
She rifled through her purse and pulled out a pair of scissors.
"what...what are those for?" Billy asked.
Without a word, Sally began to cut through all of his notes. Billy reached out to stop her, but it was far too late. No one could cut faster than Sally. The small pieces of paper got picked up by the wind and blew off the edge of the roof.
"what...what'd you do that for! MY NOTES!!" Billy screamed incredulously.
"Goodbye, Billy." Sally said simply. Before he could react, Sally charged at him and pushed him over the edge. Satisfied, she fixed her hair and walked away. |
