Started watching this tonight |
Pretty solid start. A lot of pretty strong characters already. The crazy ladies of Paradise are so weirdly funny. And Tui's dad is already a pretty great villain so far. The scene with Tui aiming the gun at him was one of the best
I'm still kinda confused about some of of the relationships of the characters but I think that's kinda what they were going for? I feel like they showed a bunch of fragments in episode 1 and it'll be explained more fully later |

Why are half the people in this town such assholes? The cop smirking about how Tui's probably already dead and the guys joking about fucking her. What the FUCK!! Robin and her boyfriend(?) seem like the only decent people in the whole town
The setting of this show reminds me so much of The Returned. Very small town, beautiful landscapes, huge lake as a focal point. Really similar
It's still weird seeing Elisabeth Moss in modern day clothing since this is the only thing I've seen her in other than Mad Men (: |

Also the scene between Robin and Mitcham was probably my favorite. That guy steals every scene he's in
I liked the cut to her "NO ONE" scrap after his last line |

Episode 4 was the best yet
|
Weird how they didn't even bring up her rape until this episode yet it already feels like such a driving force. Nearly the entire episode was devoted to it. I WANNA KNOW WHAT TUI'S BROTHER ISN'T TELLING HER!! And I finally get their relationship now. Though I can't recall what he was doing with Tui's mom. Was he there as a step-son or as a boyfriend?
That ending actually made me jump. BE CAREFUL ROBIN!! I'm wondering if she stepped out on the road because she was actually feeling suicidal or her mind was just too aloof because of all the shit she's going through. I assume it's meant to be ambiguous |

Yeah that was great. Definitely a lot different way of handling it than Peggy would've done (:

It's all one continuous scene really. Tui's brother drags her out kicking and screaming to the lake

oh man. Just watched the final two episodes back to back. My head is SPINNING. So many twists in so little time
|
I think episode 6 was my favorite of the series. The whole Tui/Jamie chase was amazingly done. My jaw DROPPED when that body came tumbling down the cliff. I was so fucking relieved when they revealed it was Jamie. I hated that kid anyway (: IMPRESSIVE sleight of hand there tho! I'm assuming they quickly switched coats behind the shed off-camera the second time he was telling her to run, then he took off? Loved the shot of Tui shooting the gun in the air afterwards
Jamie's funeral was a great scene too, with the confrontation between his mom and Matt
Glad that Tui got to shoot Matt in the end. Though...was Matt actually the dad? Or did Al lie about that and Tui got roofied at his house? I kinda assume the latter, and I'm assuming Robin really did get raped there. Really sad. That final confrontation with Robin and Al made me so nervous, WHY WAS SHE HOLDING THE GUN CLOSE ENOUGH FOR HIM TO REACH? And after she shot him she sets the gun down on the counter. I was expecting him to come in at any minute and grab it
For a show with such heavy subject matter (and heavy scenes) they sprinkled a lot of fucking bizarre moments that somehow didn't feel out of place. Matt whipping himself, pretty much anything with the women of Paradise, Tui hissing like a cat, that crazy midwife's son. That guy PISSED me off! He came all that way and didn't help with shit, even when Mitcham went up to Tui's tent with a gun. I really don't understand how Tui could've possibly survived the birth with no help, or at least not been bedridden for days, but meh I can look past it (:
So many good characters. Robin, Jonah, Matt, GJ, Tui, and Jamie were all really memorable. And that Paradise lady that used to have a chimp boyfriend (: Probably my favorite side character. Every time she'd quietly parrot what GJ just said was so funny |

really old news but this is the first I've heard of this:

really? I'm kinda intrigued but I think it worked well as just a mini-series
