not surprised but seems like the Guardians are gonna dip after like 15 min based on that trailer. IT'LL HAVE TO DO I SUPPOSE
didn't love Ragnarok as much as some but it was at least better than most samey Marvel movies. Really impressive how Taika's taken Thor from probably the most boring MCU character to one of the most fun

this was...v good! Go figure that the reception has been relatively lukewarm for this of all MCU movies. Kinda reminds me of how a lot of people didn't love GOTG2 either. I guess we're just looking for different things!
speaking of GOTG2, this was easily the best MCU movie since that one I think, I liked it a fair bit more than Ragnarok. I actually LAUGHED at this movie...a lot! Wowee

this was actually sitting at a 4/5 for me through the first two acts but it did kinda start to falter down the stretch. Gorr was kind of underwhelming in the end, cool design and Bale did his darnedest but there wasn't much to work with there
Zeus kinda stole the movie for me, actually glad he's still alive. Crowe fuckin KILLED, he was funny in Nice Guys but mostly played the straight man there, but he was genuinely hilarious in this
The mjolnir/stombreaker rivalry comedic beats really worked for me too. Especially every time stormbreaker started creeping into frame
Loved the little worldbuilding bits with the corporatized New Asgard, wouldn't have minded spending more time there. Unfortunate we didn't get to see what the theater troupe had cooked up for their next performance :(
The Thor/Jane stuff didn't really GET to me much emotionally but it was well done enough, I'm just glad Portman got to go out on a high note and actually get to have fun with it rather than just playing Scientist Girlfriend |

It attempted a joke every 3 seconds and was filled with cringe moments every time a joke failed. |
you just described almost every Marvel movie

idk maybe this is where the difference lies for me, 95% of Marvel movies don't make me feel anything in the dramatic moments anyway, so I didn't mind this mostly skipping over that pretense and committing to being an all-out farce. If the ratio of comedy/drama was like 90/10 in this as opposed to 70/30 in other Marvel movies, at least this had a good hit rate on its jokes which I can't say for most others
I will give you the plot was a bit undercooked tho

lol considering |
the girl at the end is Hemsworth's irl daughter, I wouldn't be surprised if most of those kids were related to production members |
and idk, did Ragnarok take itself much more seriously tho? The movie even opens with Thor being imprisoned by a demon and the entire scene is him bantering with it. And the main plot was about the fall of Asgard which COULD be a heavy plotline but they were constantly cracking jokes at it, like Korg even cracks one AS it's being blown up
I seem to be in the minority on this one tho so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m surprised you liked it as much as you did, since you guys are critical of marvel movies and their bottled formulas. (Which I understand) This movie was empty of heart and purpose. It felt like a kids movie with adult jokes. I will shit on this movie any chance I can. It made me question my hobbies and interests. |
I think you just described part of why this one actually hit for me weirdly enough lol. While the usual formula has grown stale I appreciated that this movie dropped all pretense of being serious and veered almost into parody at times. Which would've been very easy to hate if the comedy didn't work, but Taika's humor does (mostly) work for me
That's why the Guardians movies are the only ones I'd consider GREAT in the MCU, because they're actually funny and don't take themselves too seriously. Those do have a leg up though because they do actually nail their dramatic beats unlike Taika's movies

I also watched it in theaters and it was a packed good crowd of TRUE TAIKA FANS |
tbh this is a lot of it, it was just a fun ol time at the theater that I'm not sure would hold up as well if I'd waited for Disney+
I don't even know if I'd watch it again but I had a BLAST at the time!
