Destruction of Confederate monuments in Virgina - Destroying your own past doesn't right any of its wrongs, and you take away any lessons you could learn. Every historic monument on earth is a testament to a shittier time. Slaves fought to the death for entertainment in The Colosseum, knock it down! The Taj Mahal was built by slaves, get rid of it. Horatio Nelson supported slavery, knock Nelson's Column down! I guess people that can't create anything themselves can only look to destroy things instead.

The point is that the monuments being removed have nothing to do with the Civil War and were made in the 20s-60s out of cheap materials specifically to push against the Civil Rights movement. This isn't a memorial so much as it was a cracker "fuck you" to black people.

The reason I say cheap materials is because they are- these aren't the earlier marble or granite memorials, but really crappy concrete cheapies mass produced for sudden demand for people to have a "confederate" monument in town. There is literally 0 historical lesson in any of them.

Any decent ones get moved to a museum.

There is a huge historical lesson in them.

There is zero historical lesson in them. Zero people have gone "Hey, wow, look at this statue of Stonewall Jackson! Let me find out about why it was put up!" only to learn that it was put up by racists who were fighting against Civil Rights. Statues aren't for lessons, they are memorials. You put them up to honor people, not for a history lesson. Otherwise, I recommend building a huge Quantrill statue in Lawrence to teach people the history of that town. I'm sure they'll love it! Also, we need a huge Sherman statue in Atlanta so they can learn all about him.

Wait- you say that people in those towns don't want these statues? Why not, if they are only for historical lessons? After all, don't Atlanta people deserve to be reminded about Sherman's March to the Sea lest they forget history? Won't people totally forget it happened otherwise?

I just saw the tide pod thing on the news tonight. I actually saw some piss ignorant lady saying they need to make them look less appetizing and make the detergent less powerful so kids wouldn't die when they ate them. How about you watch your fucking kids instead?
