i got carcassonne for my birthday (haven't played it yet but heard it's great), and then i bought pandemic (REALLY fun. you work together to try to cure diseases in the world before too many people get infected).
my roommate got boss monster (also fun, you are a boss at the end of a video game dungeon and you build up your dungeon so that it kills more adventurers than the other players) and xenoshyft (it's a co-op, deck-building tower defense kinda game? it works sorta like dominion with the drawing and buying of cards, but then you use those cards to defend the base against a bunch of aliens. also would recommend!) |
Pandemic is great and can be a pain in the ass (especially if you add any of the modules). But I like the cooperative games more and more, especially when playing with the kids. It's why I'm considering picking up Zombicide even though it is similar to all the Zombies!!! stuff I have. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

dunno how old your kids are but if you like cooperative games, give hanabi a shot. it's my absolute favorite co-op game of all time but it's a lot of logic and memory, so i wouldn't recommend it for young'uns.

kids are 13 and 11, but they are pretty advanced. Will give it a look. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

I need to buy some of these. You guys ordering the online?
I have 17yr old girl (she's into Sherlock Holmes, etc.), 16-yr old girl (she's agreeable, but would probably only play cause its family time), 13 yr old girl (see last girl), and a 11-yr old boy (he's into star wars, games, etc.)
What would you recommend for a wide assortment of players? I like the idea of a coop game. |
While not a co-op (though we sometimes play it more cooperative) we've been playing the old 221B Baker Street game. Fun puzzling Holmes cases, but not so basic like Clue. It also has a lot of pun-type figuring out: for example, they might have two suspects names Longford and Tallfellow and you'll get a Killer Clue (Two Parts) I: opposite of short. You then look and either one could be the killer, so then you find the second killer clue and it says Killer Clue (Two Parts): Norwegian sea inlet, so you then know the killer has to be Longford. Sometimes you get the second clue first and you sit forever trying to figure out what the damn word is supposed to be. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

I'll look for that one, sounds fun. The younger ones like Clue, but it's getting a bit to basic, easy for them. |
Essentially, like Clue, you are traveling from location to location, but each location in a case has a number associated with it. You look up that numbered clue in the book. Sometimes it is useful, sometimes it's a red herring, and sometimes it just says "No Clue" and you get pissed and throw shit. Often the cases themselves will indicate areas you may want to check out (like the case may say "After watching an opera at the Playhouse, they retired to their room in the Hotel." so you know there might be something useful in both those locations. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

DEAD OF WINTER
It's great |
I haven't gotten this, but, as I said, I already have Zombies!!! and ten or so expansions, so I haven't been in a rush to get another zombie game, but I like the cooperative aspect.
I'm also thinking about getting Red Dragon Inn at some point, but then I think that's the slippery slope of having to get all the expansions there. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

I have Betrayal. We started playing it once and my wife got a bit bored and the kids weren't jumping on it. The traitor component reminded me of Battlestar Galactica (which we tried to play at our first Beer and Boardgames night, which was a mistake, because with everyone drinking it took us an hour and a half just to make it through the rules).
