Man...this episode hit a weird spot for me.
I know for SURE, with absolute certainty that if this technology was available, my mom would have got a hold of it and used it for me and my sister.
I thought they were going the route of how not seeing the bad would jack you up, but they didn't really do that.
In a lot of ways, I think this was about how the technology affected the mom more than the daughter. This episode was much more about her than Sarah.
She experienced fear of losing her, then got the tech to make sure that wouldn't happen again. But the stuff came with a ton of different effects too and it was whether or not the mom could just let her daughter go and be herself or if she would continue to live paranoid and need to maintain control.
Ultimately, her paranoia and her need to be everywhere Sarah was and know everything about her daughter at any given time was too much for her and it cost her the most precious relationship she ever had.
They clearly were showing us how the mom was completely consumed by that technology. Only when she put it away was she actually able to have a life of her own, enjoy nights out with a guy and be peaceful. Then when the paranoia came back up and she couldn't help herself, her life was again all about Archangel and she eventually ruined herself.
It was a great episode in my mind, but SUPER uncomfortable. From start to finish it made me uncomfortable. It was a lot slower than a lot of other episodes, but you just knew what was coming and seeing it all build. It was super fascinating.
I really hope nothing like this ever gets invented. It would ruin so many people. |
