really loved this. It subverted all of my expectations for what it was going to be. It just got increasingly more and more insane. Left me sitting there looking around to see other people's reactions every time something more ridiculous happened. I haven't felt this way watching a movie since I went into kingsman golden circle having no idea what the series was like. Just such a surprise in such a good way. I loved how artistic it was, how heavy the themes were, and how it dove head first and shamelessly into the Norse religion as a very serious theme that the morals of the movie were based in. At the beginning of the movie, my first thought was exactly what boc said, and i thought this was going to be a dry shallow Viking revenge journey but it was so much more, to the point where I was not really missing what I thought was missing by the end of it. Everything about this was so cool so unique. Sometimes it was horrifying, brutal, and gorey, and sometimes it was a Norse fever dream acid trip, but the whole time it had me roped in. I felt so blue balled when they were escaping on the boat. I wanted the final showdown at hel's gate, and by god did they give it to us. So awesome. One of my favorites I've seen in a long time |
