I love the new cast members. Looks like they're having a lot of fun already. 5 instead of 7 players is great, too. Great for 8 eps across the summer. |

I'm having a hard time to keep up with this. I miss mercer's dm style. Also the episodes are surprisingly long. |
I've been struggling to keep up with this as well. I thought I'd love it. I think you're right. Missing Matt Mercer's dm style. I've heard some reviews on it that haven't really pushed me to dive into it all yet. I've only watched the first episode and a chunk of the second. Maybe when it's all over I'll want to watch it all at once, binge-style. |

I have heard such not great things that I don't think I'll ever watch all this. I did check out recap/reviews of the episodes from one random guy on youtube to know some of what happened. |

I finally pushed myself to commit to watching Calamity and oh my goodness. The first two episodes, the characters, the story, all of it is just so, so good. I've even been watching it all on normal speed. :o The highest of praises. |

I finished Calamity and it was amazing! 10/10 would recommend.

Captivating! So much worked that it's hard to list everything off. Sam's character, Sam in general, just perfect. The news broadcasts, yes please! I loved the two new guys, too. Their RP was top tier. Especially the paladin dude and his talks with Asmodius. It would've been amazing if he was able to redeem him. It worked out that he couldn't, and Asmodius' response to it was amazing, but even through that the pally guy remained hopeful of redeeming others still. I loved Asmodius' take/worldview of not doing anything wrong, though, but if you're a mortal f this guy. Plus who knows when he was telling the truth about anything.
Travis's character on a sending stone with his kids. Pure gold!
The only time things dragged for me was during an early fight in episode 3, and some moments in episode 4. Combat wasn't nearly as engaging as the back and forth the characters were having.
The one thing I didn't get, but was hoping for throughout, was for one of the characters to remain selfish even in the face of what they've done, and for the most part they were... up until the tree was destroyed. After that all of them turned to saving the people of the city, which made for incredible arcs and closure for all. The closest who came to sticking toward selfishness, kinda, was Sam's character who was unselfish entirely for the person he loved to the bitter end. Aarbia's character was probably the one I connected with the least. Mechanically she couldn't save her ex-husband and teleported to safety in that one fight, which makes sense. But was certainly rough. Rock and hard place decision. There was some weird reactions on her part to things throughout that were awkward. That said, I was hoping she would try and pull a fast one and try and planeshift the city instead of going for the primordial plan, leaving Exandria to its fate and reaching her goal, and other characters trying to stop her. Could've been fun. But I get why she came around to the destroy the primordial idea. All in all, made for a beautiful story.
Do we know now how the Raven Queen ascended/why she erased her name from the world? Was it her casting true resurrections with the previous god of death's name while doing her ascension ritual to take his place? Do gods have secret names? Then did she go back to erase her name so others couldn't do the same to her? But then I guess a God isn't dead, so maybe that's not how that went? Idk, but that seemed like an ingenious way for it. And all the other wizards having similar aspirations, especially those who were alive when she had been, made so much sense. I loved that Vespin's idea was to try and usurp a Betrayer God instead of one of the Primes.
The story in these four super long episodes was just so good. A rare prequel done right. |
