I couldn't finish the last star wars show they did. Boba Fett or w/e it's called. But I am so excited for this one. That poster alone looks amazing. |

EP 1/2

Ewan McGregor is so good as Obi-Wan. I can't even express how excited I was for this and to see him in the role again. More! I want all the Obi-Wan!
Seeing his day to day routine and starting off slow was the right call, I feel. Makes sense, and I like how they show how out of practice he is throughout these two episodes.
I'm a little disappointed they brought in Leia. Can't lie. Kids... meh. It always feels the same. Her running away from him, too. Please less of this. How many times did he scream her name? It was hard not to dislike her as a character when she nearly gets herself killed. But that's most child characters in action based shows and movies, not listening. Causing more problems for the protagonist. Then she jumps and falls. I looked away from the screen after he saved her and suddenly he was down off the roof and with her on the ground, and I had to rewind to see how he got down. He just does, I guess. Did he even take out the guys firing at him?
I enjoyed the scenes with her where she wasn't putting herself in danger. :)
The fake Jedi character was a big win for me. Very fun and interesting what came of that.
"WE WILL FIND YOU!! WE WILL DESTROY YOU!" This scene... waving her lightsaber at the ship... nope.
Overall, though, the show looked great. They really captured the lived in world of Star Wars. I'm along for the ride!

My hope is he drops her off back to safety at the start of episode 3 and that's the last we see of her. |

I'm shocked they're continuing this Leia storyline and that they didn't immediate reach her planet and drop her off to safety. Certainly treated all other travel with a snap of their fingers to get this far from home in the first place. I take it the ship they stowed away on was going to this planet and they weren't actually in control of where it went. Guess they could've made that clearer last episode.
With how slow Vader was taking things, they all could've went through the tunnels together. The direction really didn't convey why Obi-Wan had to run off another direction or why the woman who was helping them had to turn back either.
The blue glow of the lightsaber looked so good. Everything has looked great. I liked so much of the visuals they were giving us. And a lot of the small interactions and stuff were done well enough, too.
I'm a big fan of putting your characters into seemingly unwinnable situations, but if they come out of it, the how has gotta be believable. Vader couldn't have forced away the flames, jumped over them, pushed the droid away, dragged Obi-Wan back through the flames?? Instead, he turns and walks away. ???
And my god, Leia being caught again cause she was left alone, nope nope nope. Were these people teleporting past each other unseen? I felt like I must've missed some things when watching.
^_^ I feel wildly over critical of this episode, but it felt weird!
I loved the early stuff in the episode with Obi-Wan and Leia and their little journey into the town. That chunk of the episode was good. The ending stuff just felt like a wet noodle to me. |

This show needed Leia gone after the first episodes. It needed a cooldown with Obi-Wan recovering or remembering Anakin, etc. It didn't need to rush forward with the plot of boring rescue Leia mission take 2. Ewan remains the thing that's working, and his use of Jedi powers is always cool, but mans. This episode felt ripe for a cooldown of flashback scenes or training or anything that wasn't this. |

I don't know what's wrong with me. I felt very little this episode for any of the emotional moments beyond the flashback scenes with Anakin and the stuff Vader was up to. I feel like a curmudgeon watching Leia go and become an 8 year old engineer, Reva inexplicably putting Obi-Wan with two guards instead of keeping him right there in front of her until Vader came. The death scene from that one character. The dialogue we got from her with Obi-Wan earlier in the episode felt so uncomfortable and off.
The stuff I didn't like, I really didn't like. But the stuff I liked was great to see. Heaps better than the last episode, at the very least.
Imagine if Leia had been returned to safety after episode 3. If this episode had been episode 4 instead of episode 5, with parts of this being in an episode 5, etc. More flashbacks, more Anakin/Vader stuff. That seems like a better show. It REALLY feels bogged down in trying to do justice to Reva's story, to Leia's story, to that character who died this episode's story. When the whole selling point was Obi-Wan and his story. You could've slowed things down even more with added character beats if you yeeted the rescue Leia take 2 that was episode 4.
It's a show with so much promise. Whatevers. It is what it is. I loved the flashback scene. Wish there were more. We're through 5 episodes and no Qui-Gon Jinn. Like. Wow. Throw him in episode 6 to backload everything. I liked the confrontation between Vader and Reva, but it was done so poorly from her character's standpoint.
What was the direction trying to tell us? Did Reva get bamboozled by Obi-Wan? Did he lie to her? Or was she expecting to sneak up and stab Vader while he looked off into the sky? Surely not. Surely she was expecting a fight between Obi-Wan and Vader where she could've came in and cleaned up... right? And if so, why let Obi-Wan out of your sight.
And when she gets stabbed and they let her live...
At least the Grand Inquisitor return was fun. |

The early scenes with Obi-Wan having faux conflict with Ice Cube's son and Leia were not it.
HOLY the Reva stuff was unnecessary. Every time they cut back to it during what was an epic battle between Vader and Obi-Wan, they had to know it couldn't stand up with that...
Everything about the confrontation with Anakin was epic. Loved that they got to talk a bit more. The sound work! One of the best scenes in the whole show. Not sure I like the implication of Obi-Wan leaving him alive to go be evil or Obi-Wan leaving the planet and the massive ship not shooting him out of the sky, but it is what it is.
Travel speed, teehee.
They really thought they had something with the Reva character, didn't they?
I keep feeling like the only things working in this are Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. But I did love the final scene between Leia and Obi-Wan.
The confrontation between Vader and Obi-Wan gave this show reason to be. It's worth it just for that. Amazing stuff. But still, what a disappointment of a series. Cut Leia out after the 2nd or 3rd episode. Do something else with Reva, or not even have the Inquisitors in this, and add in far more flashbacks between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Really, a failure on the part of the creators here not to see how their focus was all over the place. Focusing so much on Leia and Reva in this show just feels like a massive mistake.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes! The creative minds behind the show must've known how impactful and incredible that scene was going to be. Which makes their decision to focus elsewhere for as much of the show as they did so damning.
HOW was there not more Anakin/Obi-Wan flashbacks throughout the show?!?! Why make the fourth episode what it was?!?! |
