I got to play this for a little bit today. I only got to the cannery factory and stopped there.
I love it so far. It FEELS so much like an updated New Vegas, yet still an entirely different game, and I'm so happy for that. The dialogue options, the sense of humor, the characters, the skill traits, the character creator. I'm so excited right now. :dd: |

hey this is out
haven't had TOO much time to play it yet (and a good chunk of my time so far was going over like 10 character iterations on the creation screen) but ppp good so far. Definitely FEELS like a spiritual successor to New Vegas between the dialogue tone and karma system. I'm excited to play more
It does seem to be more linear but I'm okay with it so far |
So I can't take a wrong turn in the beginning and get fucking murdered by a bunch of deathclaws? |
I took a wrong turn in the very first mission of the game and got ambushed by 8 giant fucking gorilla things who tore me apart. |

Just completed this. I'll post some thoughts, no major spoilers here.
This was an amazing game, definitely a fantastic experience that I will play again for other endings in the future. My only problem is that I felt it was way too short. When I first saw the game map I thought to myself that this was going to be a super long game. I was disappointed that you don't even visit some of the stuff on the map. Out of all the planets shown, you only get to explore two planets, one asteroid and one space station. The main campaign has a total of 13 possible main story missions, but many of them will auto complete or auto fail depending on what route you choose to take. I think I did about 10? Reading the list, I don't recognize some of these mission names at all.
Much like my original New Vegas run where I was purely NCR, I decided I would be purely for The Board in my first run. I think this may have shortened the story quite a bit, which is a shame. New Vegas made up for this by having long arcs strictly dedicated to which faction you back. And in that, there were four endings. Here, it seems you only have two choices and I believe the one I chose is not exactly the one that game wants you to do. But even so, 13 isn't very many at all even if I did go against The Board.
Alas, there's a lot of good to this game and you can definitely emerge yourself for hours in the side quests. I'm pretty sure I missed a ton even though I felt like I exhausted every dialogue option with the characters I did run into. There's lots of characters to meet and just about every named character you do meet has a backstory, purpose and possibly a mission for you to do. The factions, much like New Vegas, are great and all have their own meter based on your relationship to you. The only problem I have with this is that it's way too easy to please everyone. I was revered by every faction in the game except maybe one. That should not be possible considering how much the game forces you to choose sides. Even so, I do like that there is no obvious good ANYWHERE in the game. Everyone is a shade of grey and what you choose, your companions will have a mixed bag of reactions of whether you made the right choice or not. There is no wrong or right choice, it's the world you want to create. Even in the game's beginning, you meet a twirly mustache villain type named Reed Tobson who I never thought I would end up siding with, but ultimately decided to when conflicted with the choice... and I actually felt like I was making the CORRECT moral decision when I did. You will also run into this in the other major world, Monarch.
New Vegas was obviously the major influence here, which is a good thing. But there's elements from a lot of different series here. Namely Borderlands and Mass Effect. Matter of fact, this game has made me want to pick up Mass Effect: Andromeda again, which I abandoned years ago.
I'll play this again eventually and hopefully avoid spoilers on what other choices do. The choices you make the arcs it takes definitely makes for some major replay value. Next time around, I'm definitely going to rebel against The Board. |

No I do not. That is really the only gripe I have with the game. It's especially prevalent on my second playthrough where I'm rushing through everything in the start and fast traveling more than ever. I dunno if you have run into it but I even get some buffering in the middle of the walking around in the wilderness. Very annoying.

I just did the Botanical Lab choice in this playthrough, which I did the opposite in my original. I dunno if I really like that more tbh! It's kind of wild to see Edgewater dark. But the whole town being shut down is pretty sad. If you restore the cannery, Reed actually becomes a bit nicer and more understanding about worker conditions.
There seems to be a third option where you can restore the cannery and still kick Reed out of power, which I'm intrigued about. Still, it's crazy how different the game already feels with just that one big choice. |

I hated Felix too, he's by far the weakest companion as well. His special fucking sucks. He just runs up and dropkicks the enemy in the face, which 9 times out of 10 results in him getting dropped right away by the surrounding enemies. I used him the least by far and since I sided with the Board for the most part, he was a whiny little bitch about everything I did the entire time.
I'm sure he has a bigger storyline if you just rebel against everything Board related... at least I would hope because I never even had a companion quest drop in for him so I assume that's what you have to do? |

Man that's a shame, Ellie was great. In retrospect she IS easy to miss. I think the only reason I really went out of my way to go right up to her is because I recognized her from all the game promotion with how much she was featured in it.

I agree for the most part but I actually really loved SAM. I didn't get him until near the end but some of his interactions in cutscenes were hysterical.
I only really disliked Felix. Max was... ok. Just a very odd choice for a companion. Think he was much better suited as a mission giver. |
