I let Mr. C choose a movie to watch while we were at the Provo Mall and he chose this. I was speechless.
I wanted to see it anyway but wasn't planning on with him as I figured he'd hate it and heckle it the whole time. Surprisingly he thought it was fine and the only comment he blurted out was at the end where he pointed out....

I bet Pikachu is going to turn into the father... I figured it out! |
...right when that exact plot point was revealed in everyone's faces.
I thought it was pretty good. Didn't go in with super high expectations and while I grew up with Red/Blue/Yellow, I kind of fell off the Pokemon train after the hype of Gold and Silver died out and never got into the Pokemon Go craze, so I wasn't really worried about the film vs. franchise bullshit. I took as it was and for that, it was good. I probably won't go out of my way to watch it again but if Pokemon does turn into some sort of film franchise, I would definitely watch a sequel. | Sounds like a sequel is already in the works. I think there is a lot they can do with the Pokemon universe, not necessarily needing to follow Tim Goodman. I'd love a series of different movies in the same world. Hell I'd say I'm for a Nintendo cinematic series of films tbh, this movie proved it can take a very popular game, spin it into a unique story and still remain faithful to the fanbase.
(Yes I realize detective pikachu is a game but who the fuck thinks of that when thinking of Pokemon?)
