Ehhh. I'm gonna finish it but I'm not very impressed so far.
Was playing this with Curits. First of all - FUCK the in game audio. I was having serious sound problems where Curtis sounded like dog shit and was repeating the first two words of his mouth constantly. I couldn't understand a single sentence he was saying. This would not be a problem... if there was a way to mute the other player during the game. You cannot. That's an oversight. i understand this is a co-op only game, but tbqh, vocal communication is NOT a necessary part of this game. We could have just Skyped and played but that was not an option.
But yeah, this is another one of those "go to this marker and press this button here" sort of games. There is no challenge whatsoever. The game tells you where to go and what to do and you do it, that's it. There's a few stealth scenes but they're all pretty easy and - again - pretty much tell you what you need to do without you needing to figure anything out for yourself. This would be ok if the story was engrossing but it isn't.
I do appreciate the Shawshank callbacks. There's a lot of references to it and I enjoyed them. There's also some fun teamwork puzzles that I like a lot, such as the back-to-back wall climb. But again, they don't come very often.
Think we just reached the midpoint before calling a break. Hopefully it gets better. |

I just watched the video in OP for the first time and now I'm actually kind of excited. The game looks like it gets way better when you're out of prison, which is the point we just reached. |

I take my post back (: Big time.
I imagined this being a prison game so when we escaped I figured we were at a midpoint or something, but we got a lot left. And the game gets WAY better after. I guess prison was just a tutorial stage.
Also I figured out the audio issues. Didn't really expect push-to-talk to be linked with Origin when the game itself had no options for it. |

I believe we stopped right after the rail shooting segment after the farm. |

We're almost done. Some technical issues
ON BOTH ENDS!
prevented us from finishing. |

We just finished!
|
That ending... WAS NOT expecting that at all. Curtis and I kept talking about "what if we turn against each other?" as a potential cool twist that neither of us actually saw happening. I did enjoy the final battle a lot. There was a lot tense to it because we grew to love each other's characters. And for me personally, it was bittersweet as I did not want to actually kill Vincent.
There were definitely some flaws to it and I wouldn't call it perfect by any means, but it's a genre that has never been explored before and really opens the way for future gameplay elements. And I'm very, very excited about that. |

Favorite parts:
|
- The movie theater chase. I LOVED the way this was shot with the split screen showing the bad guy's progress in cutting the door down. This was a very tense and genuinely terrifying.
- The hospital exit scene. I really, really enjoyed this. I liked Leo and Vince each getting different turns showing their progress and that they were all very different. The 2D beat-em-up view with Leo was really cool.
- The farm level.
- ALL the mini games.
- The back-to-back scene in the prison.
- The final showdown. |
