I just bought this. I had the first Far Cry on PC years and years ago. I don't remember much about it at all nor do I know if this series is continuous or not.
Only just beat the Dutch Island tutorial. It gave me Mafia III vibes at first and now does so even more with the territory/liberation system. I like it so far though.
| Hey I just beat this finally, after putting it on the backburner for a bit.
For the most part, I thought it was GREAT! I really, really enjoyed the setting and most of the characters were pretty well done. Exploring the map gave me serious Fallout vibes in the sense that I couldn't get enough of discovering what was out there and keeping my fast traveling to a minimum so I could see everything there is to see. The companions made it fun too and I used all 9 pretty evenly, but Cheeseburger rules.
HOWEVER

I am very disappointed at the ending. I don't mind games that have "bad" endings per se, but when a game has multiple endings and both are going to be bad no matter what, that kind of sucks. I really wish our choices through the game reflected the outcome. An example - maybe if you didn't liberate enough outposts or civilians throughout the game, you got a similar end to what we got with "resist". It's just like GTA IV where no matter what you do or say, everything is going to be depressing and horrible at the end and Niko won't get any closure. For me pounding so many hours into this game, it really blows that in the end, the Father wins and that's that.
Even more disappointing is that this is one of the most satisfied I felt throughout a game as I was conquering the cult. Being able to tumble down the YES sign and the big statue of Joseph, every cut scene as you liberate a cult outpost, each cutscene of Joseph becoming more and more deranged as you kill his siblings. WHAT A TEASE!
It is very strange however that after the credits roll, you can still play and the game acts like the Father got "defeated". Hm. |
REGARDLESS! Fun experience. I may revisit to finish all the side missions and whatnot later on, but for now I'm actually downloading Far Cry 4 as we speak as I'm kind of kicking myself for always ignoring this series. |
