This... might actually push me to the edge of getting a PS4. Red Dead is really just a perfect game all around. Only thing that worries me is that John Marston cannot be topped as a protagonist. |

Got the midnight release at work. This is actually the first time I've ever bought a video game at a store (: I'm 100% digital, but I really want to dive into this as soon as I get off.
Will definitely be staying up too late this morning and afternoon. I can't wait. |

I've played up to Chapter 2 so far.
It's great! I was super concerned that Arthur wouldn't compare to John at all but I really enjoy playing as him. I really enjoy the community atmosphere a lot. The setting is absolutely beautiful.
Only thing I'm a little concerned about is the uber realism, which I guess I'm just still getting used to. I don't know how many times I've run away from my horse and forgot to get my long rifle off of it. This has one of the most realistic inventory systems in a game I think I've ever seen which is bold and definitely a good idea, but a difficult thing to get adjusted to. Especially when I've been binge playing Skyrim for the last three weeks where I can have a bottomless pocket of armor and weapons.
Think this is definitely gonna be a good one though. I'm bummed I have to work tonight.

John Marston and Dutch both are two of my favorite video game characters of all time BUT I really am hoping we get split from the RD1 characters soon enough. |

It's a small thing but the whole hair growth system is amazing to me. I've never seen a game do that before. You basically can't style your hair long unless you have long hair and take the time to grow it. Same with your facial hair.
And man horse deaths are BRUTAL. I bought that cheap horse from the stables during the bear hunt mission and while taking the bear pelt home, I kind of rushed off a small ledge. Horse broke it's legs and was wailing on the ground until I chose to kill it myself. That made me feel fucking horrible.
Agree wtih Boc about the conversation system. There was something like that in GTA San Andreas too. It doesn't affect a thing, but it makes the world feel alive. |

I'm doing the same exact thing and I think it slows down the longer it gets. I had it on size 3 when I shaved, now it's on size 4 last time I shaved the rest off. |

Uff, I see what you mean about bounties Cart, I really do not think it was like that in the first one. I just robbed a train for funsies and acquired over $100 in every region. I currently only have $15. I got some work to do!
I am PRETTY SURE the bounty went away when you were killed by lawmen in RDR1 |

^ Those (I thought you played Until Dawn already at a friend's house). The Last Guardian. Horizon: Zero Dawn. The new Spiderman has gotten rave reviews, although I never played it. And I will echo Brian on the Uncharted series, all four of them were so much fun and you can get the collection of 1-3 for only $20. And outside all that, it seems most of us have PS4 and an FE gathering on console again would be kwite fun considering I don't think we have since GTA 5's online launch many, many moons ago! |

Man my heart dropped when I saw younger Ross. I'm so nervous with them involved in this game considering the plot of Red Dead 1 is John Marston taking out the remainder of Dutch's gang. Well the only ones in that game are Bill, Javier, Dutch, Uncle and John. :( This is why I was and still kind of am hoping there's a downfall that leads to us getting split up, but I'm preparing for a super sad ending to this one.
Outside that, I loved this little mission and I'm really starting to like Arthur just as much as John. These little side missions that don't involve any shooting or killing are some of the best in this series. The dialogue and acting is so good. |

Just got into Chapter 4.
|
Man Sean's death was totally out of nowhere, I can't believe that's the first major character death we've had in the game so far (I think?). I'm thinking the gang is going to not learn from their mistakes and continue the greed, especially going into a big area like Saint Denis and... I'm worried Charles or Lenny are going to get it next! Man would that make me sad. The gang's downfall is definitely looming, although the show of solidarity to Pinkerton and the line of horses outside of the plantation was really fun to watch.
I've already wandered around Saint Denis quite a bit but I do like how the game has progressively gotten more and more civilized from barren snow, to tiny town Valentine, to decently sized town Rhodes, to huge city Saint Denis. The scene where Arthur wanders into a high class saloon for the first time and all the chatter and music comes to a halt as everyone stares at the big lunky cowboy walking in made me laugh.
I was getting quite worried that I'm blasting through the game but I'm only at 40% story completion. That is NUTS to me! How am I not even at the half way point?
Still having a lot of fun with the side stuff and after finally going to a trapper for the first time, I'm in absolute disbelief over how many animals are in the game. I feel like I've only run into about a quarter of them. I wanna get a sweet hat but I'm bad at hunting. I also spend way too much time playing mini-games, even if the poker AI is very strange. I miss Liar's Dice though, I must admit. |

Thankfully later on it gives you the option most of the time to ride back and chat or let them ride off without you and mission complete there. |

So I passed a carriage which had a woman locked up, I decided to save her to see if something interesting happens, shot the guys, shot the lock on the cage and then tried to talk to the woman.
Unfortunately I still had my gun equipped after saving her, pointed it at her and she ran away screaming, reported me and I got a $20 bounty on me.
:merc: |
Literally every pedestrian I have saved from a random encounter, I have accidentally pointed my gun at them and made them run away screaming and lost me honor. I also picked up a woman on the side of the road to give a ride home to and rammed my horse into a tree, causing her to run away screaming.
Pedestrians in general have gotten me in a lot of trouble and it's AGGRAVATING how aggressive people are. I bumped into a man in the alley in Saint Denis on my way to sell a mound of pelts and meat and THE ENTIRE STREET got mad at me and turned into red dots. They all started chasing me and I knew if I fought back, I'd get a bounty. So I ran into a train and hid, only for one of them to find me. I defended myself and not only got assault, but a TRAIN ROBBERY charge. Fuck that! I've had so many random riders just pull their guns on me for walking in front of them that I've had to put down afterwards which got me murder. Just last night before I stopped playing I pressed "O" to antagonize a man who ran his carriage right in front of me and nearly killed me. Some random dude walking along hurried away to tell the police about me "disturbing the peace". I ran after him to stop him and he REFUSED, which mean I would have had to beat it out of him which is impossible to do in Saint Denis. Surely enough he got to the police station and I had about 10 cops chasing and shooting me because I told some man that he looked ugly. |

It seems the biggest culprits of the gun thing are men on horseback and people in Saint Denis. People also get really angry if you stare at them, but I find it super amusing. (: Otherwise I kind of get a silly thrill walking around town holding down L2 and greeting everyone I see, it actually raises your honor to do that too. HI THERE, MISTER!

Oh. I just had Dutch yell and scream at me because I lassoed a man who pulled a gun on me and dragged his body into camp. |
