After years of mocking my love of Survivor and never understanding the concept of this show "that doesn't even make sense!", Mr. C is officially hooked. Midway through last season he got reeled into the Mike edit and kept watching with me to see if he could make it the end. Despite knowing nobody on this season except for Joe, he's watched every episode with me so far and is pretty into it. Since I have Amazon Prime streaming on the Xbox, I randomly started going through seasons on it to see if he'd bite.

Started out with Cagayan, which was a no-brainer. He thoroughly enjoyed it. For reference, he absolutely loved Kass and... for whatever reason, rooted for LJ. Every time Spencer did a confessional he usually said "I hate that motherfucker" and he thought for sure Woo would beat Tony in the end.

Yesterday we marathoned through Panama, on a whim, cause I thought he would A) like Shane and/or B) enjoy Terry's Immunity run since it was similar to Mike's in World's Apart, which is what got him into the show. He wasn't as into this one at all and ended up hating Shane and kept calling Terry a dick. Turns out his favorite was Cirie, which took me by surprise.

Anyway I don't really trust my taste with this sort of thing and my memory of Survivor is mainly based on nostalgia and who I liked when they first aired, based off my fickle reasons for liking people when I was younger (they were black, they wore a hat backwards, they wore glasses, etc). So what would be a good season to show a clueless 60-year-old man?

And I guess we can just use this as a general "suggest a season" thread cause there isn't one.

I kind of wanted to hold off on HvV until I got a couple of seasons in so that he'd at least recognize a few people. It'd ruin the charm otherwise. I'm having trouble figuring out who he'd even like in HvV.

I would suggest a season like Australia but the game is so different now that he might not enjoy it as much since there isn't as much strategizing as the seasons you showed him. It has the original challenge beast though.

He actually watched Australia when it originally aired but he doesn't remember it at all.

Samoa. I wanna see if he roots for Brett's run and what he thinks of Hantz

I honestly have no idea who he will like on Samoa due to the weird edit, but I can tell you right now he will hate Hantz. I'm kind of scared that he'll like Shambo. He didn't even know Aras' name when he won Panama so I don't have much faith he'll root for Brett at all.

Update: After watching through the current season three times by now, he has somehow learned how to use Amazon Prime Video on his own. He wanted to watch "Season 6", having no idea what it was, and somehow came up with Philippines, which was certainly not Season 6.

He's watched that, China and is currently on Micronesia. I told him to do Samoa next.

He's been watching them mainly on his own so unfortunately I've missed his reactions to most things. But from what I picked up:

Phillippines - He seemed to like Denise and Malcolm the most and was shocked when Malcolm left. He... seemed to like Abi, probably more for the trainwreck TV she caused. He liked Pete and thought he was really smart. Absolutely hated Russell Swan and kept calling him a motherfucker. Kept making cookie jokes about Angie and started laughing his ass off when one of the reward challenges had cookies cause she wasn't there. Didn't like Jeff Kent at all.

China -- I have no idea, he watched pretty much the whole thing before I even realized he was. King Frosti was his favorite. Thought James was a dumbass. He for some reason thought Courtney was going to win. He hates Amanda, but liked her ass.

Micro - He just started this yesterday. He liked Mary. Figure that out. He doesn't like Cirie so far despite liking her in Panama. He hates Chet. James is the only one he likes, despite not liking him in China.

I got woke up yesterday by his reaction to Erik giving Immunity away.

I just walked in now to him watching Gabon... guess he confused that and Samoa. It was the episode Jacq got voted out before he turned it off. He was pissed they didn't vote out Kelly, which made me laugh. GC is this season's motherfucker. The preview for the next episode showed the elephant in the woods and GC going missing, so I told him he got eaten and he said "Good, I can't stand that motherfucker".

I can't picture him liking anybody on this season and asked if he even did. "Not many.... I like the physics guy who can't do fucking math". He also mentioned that, for a split second, he was really proud there was a Charlie on the season. Until he started talking.

Samoa was started yesterday.

He loves Hantz and says that's exactly how he'd be on the show.

No idea, he watched half of it already while I was asleep. I warned him he was on it prior and obviously already knew he nearly died from Swan's storyline in Phillippines.

He stopped on Erik's blindside so the idol play and Kelly leaving is up next. Definitively want to see his reaction to that.

Update: He liked Swan in this season, just hated him Phillippines cause of the PRAISE JESUS thing he did. Which I don't really recall, but that's how he put it.

Also he LIKES Jaison! No black motherfucker this season.

He's totally mesmerized by Hantz. I just went out in the livingroom to get a drink and he basically said "You can't, Russell said no or he is going to FIND AN IDOL AND VOTE YOU OUT!" He's completely convinced he's going to win so I really want to see his reaction to Natalie beating him cause I know he's going to be super pissed, but he's likely going to marathon the rest of the season while I'm sleeping so meh.

He has watched every single season and is now rewatching them again. Him and my stepmom literally do nothing but watch Survivor whenever she's here. What the fuck have I done.
