No, I'm serious. It's very similar to Elder Scrolls in the sense that they all have the same lore but all take place at different timelines so you aren't spoiling yourself or anything. They do a good job of giving each title it's own identity. |

I was going to get this today, but I had to call in twice for work this week and am a little hesitant to throw away $60 with a short check. I'm also pretty concerned about this running for me. |

Anyone else like to delay the main quest in these games for as long as possible? I've been exploring the area around Concord, but haven't been there yet. lol |
Yup. #1 reason why I don't finish most Bethesda games. |

In previous games you'd go on withdrawal if you didn't get your fix which gave you a heavy stat penalty. I don't know if it's still the same in 4.
So far I'm really enjoying this. There's a few gripes I have, but to be honest I wasn't expecting New Vegas 2 like many others probably were. It's different, they tried things which in my opinion don't work overly well but there are some cool ideas that perhaps could be expanded on if they do another game under the same engine.
The game is beautiful, which is something you don't often get with Bethesda. The characters and voice acting are already a huge step up from the usual norm where every guy was Gregory Alan Williams in the past. Soundtrack is, as always with Fallout, phenomenal. I love that they kept in some songs from the last two games mixed in with some new ones, it was a nice surprise.
My biggest gripe right now is with settlements. I think it's very, very cool that we can build our own community and recruit people to join. That's awesome. However so far... just about every town I've found is a potential settlement with generic settlers with nothing to really do or explore. Diamond City is alive and great with so many different things you can do, but it almost feels like everything is shoved in there to make up for the other settlements being barren. One of my favorite things to do in Fallout is wandering around to find towns with new characters, missions, things to explore and shops to trade with. None of them are present so far outside of Diamond City. Granted -- I'm still relatively early in the game so I could be completely wrong on this, but based off how the game is going right now, I can't help but feel this is the case.
Also yes, the dialogue wheel sucks. I'm not THAT bothered by it, but I wish we had more options and dialogue trees like previous games. Conversations seem way too short and I haven't had time to really "meet" any characters. Previous games you'd get a backstory on just about everyone from Sunny Smiles to Old Lady Gibson. It's very annoying that I don't know a single thing about anyone in Sanctuary outside of Preston. Then again, as I already mentioned, a mass majority of the characters I've met thus far have been "Settler". |

It can be a long freakin' game, so I agree about the replay value, but you can continue to roam the Wasteland after the main quest and contribute to the settlements, rescue kidnapped settlers, take out packs of feral ghouls or green skins or raiders threatening those settlements. I guess there's different endings depending on which faction you end up siding with. It will be a while before I go through the whole game again. I just got my life back. haha |
This is good to know. I was pissed off about this in New Vegas when I beat the main quest and the game just ended, especially since I had last saved in the middle of that mission so couldn't even go back to earlier saves. |

I already started a new game yesterday. My first save was turning into a god damn mess with the settlements since I had no idea what I was actually doing with them.
There really needs to be a mod out there that can let me just rename people. Settlers not having names in this game is bugging me more than it should. But the main problem I had was remembering what everyone's roles were. I'm thinking of installing a dress code of sorts in this next save to make it easier, the last time around I didn't even end up figuring out how to let companions/settlers equip items you give them until I had 8 settlements already. |

Anyone enter the glowing sea yet? I progressed that and a bit more of the main mission last night |
I was exploring everything south of Sanctuary and stumbled upon it the other day. Got a few fast travel markers and got the fuck out since I was low on radiation supplies and was banged up from having to kill two deathclaws... thankfully they weren't aggro'd together despite being so close apart.
I literally just got the main mission prompt to go there and I'm thankful I got a few things marked so I can just fast travel. I do want to explore it in detail when I'm a little better equipped though.
|
I was planning on going to the Glowing Sea, but I've been totally sidetracked by the Silver Shroud questline. That has been the best sidequest I have come across so far.
It's very hard to commit to most quests in general, because whenever you do a mission which involves travelling a fair distance, you come across all kinds of shit which is begging to explored, which tends to lead to even more quests.
I've made a point of not using fast travel so far. I haven't felt any compulsion to use it yet, which may be because I have explored so little of the world so far. |
I just beat the Silver Shroud quest, one of the best questlines so far. I roleplayed as him the whole way through until...
|
... the last mission where I figured I needed to pass the Charisma checks, of which I'm awful at. I reloaded countless times in attempt to save him until I figured out talking as the Shroud there actually works. Still had to kill the guy before he shot him in the head - which took another 10 or so reloads. |
Wish I could give the armor away as I'm pretty intent on keeping my vault suit in this game, nobody else can equip it though. I thought it might have looked nice on Nick.
Also I agree about exploring over fast traveling. Right now I'm focused on gathering supplies and running them between settlements. Most of the time on the south side of the map and Sanctuary is essentially my base where all my trade routes and shops are, so I constantly need to go back there every half hour or so (My strength blows and I can only hold 245 in weight). But between missions, I always try to go by foot. There's so many little things to find and stumble upon in this game, it's crazy. |

Really disappointed that I learned about Swan prior to finding him.
|
He was insanely easy for me since I already knew to be cautious once I found the pond he was in. I noticed the debris shifting around and entered VATs to see him there. Had I not known, I know for a fact I would have just dived right into that pond to get the gazebo to see what was on it. Threw a few bottlecap mines on the ground, sniped him to aggro him towards them and then unloaded with my combat rifle until he dropped. |

THEN QUIT READING SPOILERS KC! |
When I saw Swan mentioned in this thread I figured it was just a new type of radiated bird to replace cazadores or something (:
Literally the only "spoiler" I knew of thankfully. And as far as I know, it has absolutely no effect on the story so meh. |

Just had something amazing happen.
Was doing the Cabot mission where you had to find the sister.
|
I figured joining them would initiate some sort of cool side quest, so I went along with Brother Thomas and gave him all my shit. Didn't take long for me to realize it was a scam. And while bloody murder was on top of my list, I had pretty much everything I owned in my inventory at the time and I had no ammo stored away at all at any of my settlements, so even running back to get guns was useless.
Anyway I searched the place top to bottom for weapons and found nothing. So I ran across the bridge seeing if I could find a cabin or some shit that would have something. Some Mirelurks spawned, so I just aggro'd them and lured them towards Pillar's base. They took them both out relatively quick but they did manage to kill one Missionary which I looted a pipe pistol and ammo from. Spent the next 10 minutes or so attempting to snipe Brother Thomas in hidden form, but to no avail. I get killed everytime since it's a shitty ass pistol and I'm in my underwear.
Went out across the bridge again and noticed a Super Mutant on a bridge, so I once again attempted to lure him over. He had a missile launcher, which would have been perfect. Spent another 10 or so minutes (his AI was very, very stubborn about coming down that bridge), but he finally did and I ran him back to the Community as well where he was unfortunately slain without a single fatality. Looted his Missile Launcher and to my disappointment, there was no ammo for it on his body.
Just when I'm about to bite the bullet and move out to get ammo, something amazing happens. |

I just picked this up again and finished today. Had it on the back burner for awhile.
|
And literally right before meeting Shawn, too! |
Definitely wasn't what I expected and I ended up doing the complete opposite of what I ever imagined doing.
|
I sided with the Institute, surprisingly. I really liked the Railroad and enjoyed my time traveling around with Danse (though I didn't agree with the Brotherhood's beliefs), but thought from a narrative perspective that the Institute ending would be more interesting.
I slaughtered Danse right in front of all my other companions in Covenant, which was pretty sad. Even sadder that I couldn't drag his body to the seemingly permanent pile of dead ex-inhabitants that I have stacked behind the residential area because "he's too heavy".
Killing the Railroad was pretty depressing too. I told Desdemona that I was sent to kill her and asked what she thought of that since she was still alive. Hancock for some reason "loved" this and then declared that we weren't going to be the ones to kill her. I walked towards the entrance, then turned around and shot a missile to kill everyone but Tinker Tom, who fled and cowered in a corner. I really wanted to spare him but he was considered a leader so I had to put him down. Sad. Then I gave my pals at Covenant another show by killing Deacon, who was also too heavy to move to the dead body pile.
Last mission was pretty crazy and super fucking hard. I ran out of most of my ammo pretty early on leaving me with just my fully upgraded Sniper Rifle and Laser Musket to battle an army of Brotherhood. Hancock was useless the whole fight and my Synth beacons didn't seem to work as I got no backup at all. It was cool seeing all the big name Brotherhood characters start rushing out to stop the virus and having to take them all down, but fucking hell was it a nightmare to squeak out the win.
Ending dialogue with Shaun was eh and felt rushed. I feel like that should have happened before the last mission tbh, similar to Mr. House.
Most disappointing thing by far was the ending scene. The best thing about Fallout endings is watching how your decisions changed the scope of the Wasteland and having the fate of each character/faction explained. This was literally a few sentences and end. Total dog shit. |
Might check out the DLC, but I'm not sure. The end didn't really leave me wanting more. |
