yeah, the lindelof-y worldbuilding was my favorite part of it. the squid stuff, the vietnamese bakery, the added stars on the flag, you understand it immediately as an alternate reality. and that opening! has to be the first time that massacre was ever depicted onscreen?

the jeremy irons ozymandias (?) stuff is supposed to be a black freighter-esque runner throughout the show. dont know how that's gonna factor in |

the race stuff is obv very complicated and will probably need the rest of the season to really feel like a complete picture. at this stage of the game i'm really interested in why angela and her husband raise white kids - and don johnson's nervy references to black tulsa, and his love for conservative radio, although that last bit felt more necessary for worldbuilding than anything. making rorschach the face of a white supremacist group is also interesting. haven't read the book since '09 but i don't remember him being quite that dicey, maybe it's more of a comment on the way people interpret what he left behind. cant imagine he gets a tv show in this universe tbh.

well i guess this is the best way to get the post-chapter appendix feel of the novel wedded to lindelof ARG kookiness

good show, taking crazy swings every week. this one was especially good, even though the reveal was maybe too hinted at in advance

i think hooded justice's necessary mystery in the book and here kinda suggests, if not that he claimed to be a nazi sympathizer, that it was something folks would ascribe to him to better understand him and his intentions. im also anticipating the return of that german propaganda flier |

someone i know called the twist a couple weeks back so i've been waiting for it. too perfect and too interesting a reversal of what reeves went through in his racial makeup for it not to be the case.
while i'm enjoying the show i'm not sure i'm feeling where it's going.... the mesmerism and a lot of the lady trieu material hasn't been super interesting for me and i imagine that'll be a bigger deal going into the finale.

is this the last season too

unambiguously good and interesting, probably as rich a sci-fi love story as the constant but still... i don't know if this season's done such a great job of propelling the main story with its character-focused episodes? the pacing's been fucked since the hooded justice origin story. i'm sure it's to mimic the structure of the original novel but i dont remember that feeling this... anti climactic?
like, how is the season finale next week |

right... a lot of the characters had really great perspective episodes but it doesn't feel like they've existed enough as active participants |

yeah i think its biggest problem is that every episode seems to fundamentally change and expand on the story in such a way that the finale has way too much to do to bring it to anything satisfying. but those individual episodes are good!
