yeah, the lindelof-y worldbuilding was my favorite part of it. the squid stuff, the vietnamese bakery, the added stars on the flag, you understand it immediately as an alternate reality. and that opening! has to be the first time that massacre was ever depicted onscreen?

the race stuff is obv very complicated and will probably need the rest of the season to really feel like a complete picture. at this stage of the game i'm really interested in why angela and her husband raise white kids - and don johnson's nervy references to black tulsa, and his love for conservative radio, although that last bit felt more necessary for worldbuilding than anything. making rorschach the face of a white supremacist group is also interesting. haven't read the book since '09 but i don't remember him being quite that dicey, maybe it's more of a comment on the way people interpret what he left behind. cant imagine he gets a tv show in this universe tbh.

well i guess this is the best way to get the post-chapter appendix feel of the novel wedded to lindelof ARG kookiness

good show, taking crazy swings every week. this one was especially good, even though the reveal was maybe too hinted at in advance

yeah i think its biggest problem is that every episode seems to fundamentally change and expand on the story in such a way that the finale has way too much to do to bring it to anything satisfying. but those individual episodes are good!
