It's because of a lot of stuff, including sometimes having funding for these things included in the budget resolutions (or continuing spending resolutions when a budget hasn't been passed). It actually wouldn't have been much of an issue except Trump ditched the EO DACA program and told Congress to deal with it while pushign for his wall. Since it hasn't been, then McConnell has been touting "You can have CHIP or DACA", which is kind of a fucked up negotiating tactic. Had Trump not suspended it and put it on Congress, this would have been a easier negotiation. The key problem is the continuing resolutions they keep doing to avoid passing an appropriations bill, which just kicks the ball down the street. That's the last I saw from McConnell who wants to temp fund the government through Feb 8. Which just means it shuts down again if they still haven't resolved shit.

Why is that other horseshit tied to the basic operating budget? Nobody runs shit that way.

I'm not into blaming either party for the shutdown. I'm way more kissed that it's still possible to do this after the last time these pieces of shit collaborated to shut it down.

The government isn't going to stop mass shootings. It requires willful ignorance and irresponsibility to think they could, let alone see that as a valid preventative.

This shit won't stop until we all take collective responsibility and start behaving differently. Not as a governed collective, but on a personal, individual level.

It's one thing to be coached beforehand, but you really need notes to remind you to say "We hear you." Really? I'm not an Obama fan, but he went to Sandy Hook and quietly spent hours talking with the parents and survivors, no press, etc. He didn't have talking points he needed to carry with him to be a basic human being listening to people.

He was a better public speaker and better at recall.

I guarantee you he was coached and prepped beforehand.
