I'll watch when it's free. I prefer it to boxing, but only because boxing is such a corrupt dumpster fire.
Not a Rousey fan at all. Her undeservd hype was the first step toward turning the sport into the crap that boxing has become. I was glad to see her get exposed. | |
UFC 216 was a wrap. Tony Ferguson defeated Kevin Lee.
I like Kevin Lee. But he had a drastic weight cut. He weighed 185 lbs the day of the fight (lightweight interim title fight @155 lbs) which you would think would be an advantage, but it takes 2-3 days to properly re-hydrate your body, and it def showed in Lee's endurance as he gassed out entering the third round. Kevin Lee also had a staph infection the day of the fight as well. I def hope they change the rules of weight-cutting to something more healthy. Def concerned about Lee's dramatic weight cut. Could've ended much worse.
Overall a disappointing card. Many fighters dropped out. No fights too memorable. However history was made as Demetrious Johnson defeated Ray Borg to defend his undisputed flyweight title 11 times, breaking the previous championship defenses held by Anderson Silva. Does this make him the G.O.A.T.? Idk it's just different seeing men at 125 lbs fight vs. 185 lbs. fight. But you can't deny the man's talent and I.Q. of the sport. Super creative and tactical in the octagon. Perhaps just not as entertaining as watching heavier fighters do work.
With that card over, I'm so PUMPED for UFC 217. What else can you ask for? Three title fights. Bisping vs. St. Pierre (middleweight). Garbrandt vs. Dillashaw (bantamweight). AND Jedrzejczyk vs. Namajunas (women's strawweight).
A return of a legend, a heated rivalry between ex-teammates, and the baddest woman on the planet all in one card. It'll be a doozy!

They let him fight with a staph infection? Are there no rules against contagous illness in mma? |
