Some of those from GLB may remember Jay and I running a series of small games and awarding points based on the finishes. Before the GLB mafia died out we’d run 2 games with the same set up in two separate forums with 9 different people in each game. It was a fun concept for me to run as a mod, but didn’t make it cause participation waned.
Anyways the idea was to award points and then have a finale with the best finishers from the regular season. My questions is simple would there be enough interest in a set up like that? Or nah?
I’m also curious what some of the guys felt about the last time we did this at GLB’s thoughts??

To elaborate some now that I'm at a computer, on what we did before, but that could definitely change for this if we think it needs to be.
Initial Set-up
Game A - 9 players
Game B - 9 players
Each game used the exact same set up with 9 different players with each game having it's own forum so players can't look at both games only the game they are playing. We then awarded points based on finishes, for town, mafia or third party. If you were alive you received more points than someone that was killed and still won, but the point chart would be known before we started.
The games were open to new people the entire way, so if there were 24 people, the leftover 6 people, that wanted to play would automatically be signed up for the next game and we fill the remaining 12 spots with players from the first game. But it was always first come first serve for those that wanted to play but we didn't have room.
We continued that sequence over the course of 9-10 games, with each game hopefully only taking 1-2 weeks. Until we reached the end of the regular season. At that point we would rank people based on points based on the number of people that played in total and have a playoff round or final game for bonus points to determine the overall mafia winner.
The main purpose was too create smaller, shorter games while the big games were going on. We also tried to come up with some unique set-ups and some basic set-ups to keep things different from game to game.
Anyways if you have any questions, let me know, but I'd like to see 18-20 people interested before we even thought about running one.

I remember IP running a series of 10 9-player games way back when. I think I was leading through 6 or 7 when he disappeared. They were pretty fun.
I'd be down to give it a shot or help mod, either one. |
IP's games were in part where Jay and I got the idea to do the Mafia Series that I'm talking about.

inb4 people kill/lynch each other based on their point totals |
I think we’d run it at the Hollywood site and everyone would have alias’ for game play to avoid that.

Well I'll start putting some things together, with these games going fairly quickly I need to have several ready to go at a time and need to get the point system figured out and then I'll post it for thoughts as well before we play the first games.

This most definitely happened last time it ran through. I was lynched late in one game solely because I'd lose out on a point. A single point. lol |
Agreed, that's one of the reasons, why I think it needs to be run on our Hollywood board. The other being is that we can't run both games at once like we did last time with everyone only have access to their particular game.

I'm definitely more interested in modding than playing, so if you want the assistance, let me know. |
Okay, will do for sure, with this taking like 9 small game set-ups that are unique, we can use the help. I'm not sure if Ahoda wants to help or not for sure yet, but I'm guessing he'd like to help mod as well.

So is this next on the Mafia Queue or is another game also going to happen |
This wouldn't happen right away, I'd like at least a month or two to get things set. Plus these games will all be smaller in nature, like 9 person games. So shouldn't take more than a week or so, and we can just try to do one a month or something like that to make sure we don't interfere with the Mafia Que and those games.

Or maybe we can set it up so that one of these run in between the normal games we play.

Here's my thoughts:
-Set up a point system with the other mods (to confirm what makes sense), but don't advertise the system. That way people will play to the best of their ability rather than focus on what gets them a point or two. Wait a couple games in before posting standings so people can't immediately guess the points system.
- Feel free to run whenever, since they will be independent of regular games. The people interested will focus and trying to time games to meet downtime in other games will probably be more frustrating, especially if another big game starts halfway through one of your ranked games.

The thing is, I'm thinking that each game may be alias anyways so knowing who has what for points really won't matter unless you're able to pick out who is who as far as alias'. This will stop the "lynch him cause he has too many points" theory.
Plus if we are going to run the same game with two different groups at the same time we have to run it at the Hollywood site in order to keep separate forums.

I figured you'd keep the same aliases, since swapping them over time may become more logistically challenging? |
I really don't see it as a big deal to let people create new alias' for each game, maybe Ahoda, Spin or Curtis do though.

Yeah most of the games will have a theme and we'd be talking about 18 people, cause the idea is to run the same game at the same time in two different threads. But yes most of the alias' could be set up ahead of time based on the game.

We can discuss in the private forum Ben, but I don't think all the games should be alias. Maybe do special ones as alias. You're asking for a lot of extra work on the forum side for all alias games. |
Spin and I have been talking in there for a couple days now. Where have you been? lol

If you need someone to help with handling permissions or anything when it comes to alias, I don't mind helping on that side of things and not participating. |
Thanks Josh, we'll keep that in mind, but I don't want to take too many potential players away either. Ahoda and Spin should be plenty to help. I did think about enlisting a guest Mod once for a couple games to keep things fresh.
