this is my fave game that ive ever played (narrowly beating out Arkham City) so I was very keen to watch this and so far its absolutely enthralling
|
the clicker was fucking perfect. i loved everything abt that scene.
i catch myself trying to think back to the game and spot differences in my head which can get a bit distracting but they've done a really good job of staying true to the material whilst not just making a frame for frame redo. appearance wise i think Pedro looks awesome. Ramsey as Ellie sometimes is a bit hard for me to accept but she's delivering her lines perfectly.
i really thought they would drag out Tess' part a little more because she seemed to be such a strong screen presence. i was trying to remember how early in the game Tess dies but still thought they'd let her live till ep 3. really cool death scene tho

im curious for the introduction of the poachers or whatever they were in the game i.e. the human baddies. i think they alluded to those in ep 1 as slavers or something. theres def a few specific scenes and scenarios that im super looking fwd to like when Joel gives Ellie the sniper and she covers for him in that big battle with human baddies, the elevator shaft falling apart with Joel/Ellie being separated leading into the basement battle with the infected, the cannibal David, the Giraffe scene. HOT DANG i fucking love this game and so far this show as well |

eh! Solid ep though probably the weakest yet. Joel and Ellie relationship building was pretty good, every scene with the Kansas City crew was kinda whatever. I feel like they were trying to flesh them out into more than "bad guys shooting at the protagonists" but can't say I care about any of them. It was cool seeing Tommy's VA show up though, he was the long-haired bearded guy. Sure looked the part!
You can definitely tell they had fun writing up that truck fight scene lol, some ambient lines ripped straight from the game and ofc all the popping up from cover. Joel killing that kid at the end was suitably brutal
What do we think that lil earthquake was all about? I assume it's gonna be a bloater, but I could also see it being some new weird monstrosity they're introducing. Like the nexus of the local tendril network or something |

agreed with basically all of this. loved how similar the ambush scene was tho i was REALLY hoping Joel would say "oh he aint even hurt"
i didn't think it was a quake i just thought it was infected pushing their way up but that is unlikely now that i think abt it.
the sequence with "henry" and "sam" was great from what i recall, HUGE action sequence upcoming which im excited for
ellie's "diarrheic is hereditary" joke cracked me up. great scene |

I liked this episode a whole lot more than I expected and certainly a lot more than the DLC -i barely remembered the DLC specifics.
I was worried they were gonna cut or shorten the David storyline but seeing next week's teaser has me excited. This section of the game was the scariest to me and also took the longest to get through. Super excited!

a bit unrealistic for me to expect but I REALLY wanted to see the adaptation of David and Ellie fighting infected together before David reveals that they're hunting for Joel and Ellie. Besides that, hooo boy did I enjoy the episode. Especially the ending, super intense and gripping.
I'm afraid they're not gonna stick the landing tho. In part because I really loved the actual game ending and I've read some articles that make me think they're gonna deviate from it, don't know to what extent. That being said overall this has been phenomenal with maybe 2 eps at most being a bit sluggish. Gonna make myself finish part 2 of the game before season 2 comes out

it felt a bit rushed to me weirdly but there wasn't a ton left to show since they don't really focus on fights with infected |
(the double Bloater fight in the underground portion of the hospital) |
so once they made it to the hospital, yeah it was basically playing the game on easy mode with Joel wiping out everyone. def echo the sentiment that the Joel-Ellie scenes were acted to perfection. at the end you could feel like Ellie knew Joel was lying and Joel knew that she knew but they both reached a level of acceptance that the truth doesnt really matter because they have and love each other. absolutely loved it.
also loved that the OG Ellie (Ashley Johnson) played the show Ellie's mom. really sweet nod to the game.
i need to finish part 2 before season 2 comes out. amazing show and i'll likely rewatch the whole thing soon. |
