Help settle this debate, it’s a popular one. Would you file Jurassic Park under the horror movie genre? Obviously it’s sci-fi/Action/adventure, but would you say it’s a horror movie?

Why is Jaws widely considered to be a horror movie and Jurassic Park isn’t?

Alien is DEFINITELY horror. That’s not up for debate Vlady, don’t try it!!!! Also you can’t define Alien’s genre based on the progression of the series which was handled by different people each time, that’s just silly. Look at Evil Dead!

It’s a sci fi thriller yes but it is undoubtedly a horror movie

Jaws/Alien/Jurassic Park are questionable for a lot of people (mostly JP) because they're so effective at being a handful of genres rolled into one. They're like the grandfathers of that imo. THEY'RE ALL KINGS

The INTENT to consistently scare is important. The furnace in Home Alone scared the shit outta me when I was a kid, that doesn't make it a horror movie

And obviously Vlady's argument that a horror movie has to make you afraid to do a task IRL is...awful. Were you afraid to exorcise demons on the weekends after you saw The Exorcist, Vlady

Alien is of course a horror movie
Jaws is a horror movie
Those two are literally two of the most popular horror movies

Jurassic Park I understand both arguments. It's definitely on or near the line
