Your driver curses as the cab trudges through the deep snow roughly. The windshield wipers are working harder than they ever have. Snow splats and sticks on the windshield faster than the wipers can remove it. The only thing that can be seen through the dark of the night and the thick snowfall is one large, round headlight at the front of a long body. A train. Your train.
After the cab pulls into the station, the cabbie stops the car to a halt and you throw some money his way. As you step out of the cab and into a pile of brown slushy snow, you take in your surroundings for the first time. This isn't an ordinary train, this is a luxury train. You've never seen anything like it in person. It reminds you of one of those European bullet trains you've seen in the movies.
Other vehicles pull up and drop off an assortment of people. You watch them as they step onto the train and can't help but think about how strange this cast of characters is.
As you walk alongside the train, you take a look at all the moving parts. Rusty winches and gears are moving along as the train comes alive. Bolts and train spikes are littered on the edge of the loading dock as workers quickly try to patch something up. You peak over their shoulders and watch them as they try to pry something that's wedged in the winches. Was that...blood? It's probably nothing...
Steam is billowing out of the top of the train and out of the sides underneath. One worker retreats back up onto the platform to avoid the heat. You realize for the first time just how dangerous this mechanical beast can be.
Two workers are huddled over a rusty barrel with a fire on the inside of it. Their finger less, torn gloves extend over the edge of the barrel just above the flames. When they see you approaching, they snarl and walk the other way. Nice guys.
As you approach the fire, you reach deep into your pocket and grab the object inside. A letter. You clutch it so hard in your fist that your hand turns red. You unfold it and read over the contents one more time. With one final last thought, you look up at the train, then back at the cab as it gets ready to leave.
"ALL ABOOOARD!"
The conductor's voice booms throughout the howling of the snow. You glance over the letter one final time before crinkling it up into a ball. The letter drops from your hands into the flames at your command. As you look behind you, the cabbie pulls out of the station. Your decision was made up.
You approach the conductor and hand him your boarding pass. He punches a hole into it with the metal clicker and hands it back to you.
"Welcome aboard." he says with a friendly, but forced smile.
Your feet are firmly planted on the edge of the concrete platform just below the steel steps up onto the train. Something in your gut tells you that this is wrong. That you should've gone back. That you never should've responded to that letter. Deep in your heart you know that something about this just isn't quite right.
You step up onto the train.
Unbeknownst to you, you're in for the ride of your life. You've just boarded a one way trip to a night full of mayhem, chaos, manipulation, violence, paranoia, arguments, lies, and murder.
All aboard!

I think each season of ATTWS set the record each time tbh, not sure though. I hosted ATTWS1 way back when we just started and not as many were starting to play yet
