I saw this article not too long back but never got a chance to post it. Natural science and the animal kingdom, particularly the subject of intelligence fascinates me. This is one of the most amazing discoveries I've seen documented in recent weeks:
Apparently dolphins have been witnessed engaging in social cliques. A dolphin that used a broken sea sponge to protect itself from scratches caused by grit whilst foraging, taught this technique to others.
Now the dolphins who engage in this act have been studied and it seems they choose to only socialise with other dolphins who have learned this ability, forming a social clique of sorts where the dolphins who don't use sponges are ostracised.
Such a level of social organisation indicates an extremely high level of intelligence. These are amazing creatures and the more they're studied, the more they fascinate me.
