No, not a Wii U, just a Wii. I gave up on buying new consoles a long time ago, but figured getting a Wii would be a fun way of getting the family a little more game savvy. Family meaning my g/f and her 8yo daughter.

Anybody have suggestions for must-have games? Especially ones that are good for 3-4 players?

FYI I already bought mario kart and smash bros.

Super Mario Bros Wii. I played with three friends in college and it was some of the most fun I've had playing a multiplayer game

Just dance is pretty fun too. I got mocked for kicking everyone's butt at it
"So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"

Definitely Mario Party games. If you want, you could buy some Gamecube controllers and get Gamecube games for your Wii too for more options.

I always forget about the Gamecube option.

We already had a gamecube so the guy at the store let us know about keeping the controllers and games to play on Wii. That's what pretty much sold me on the whole idea.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom. A great fighting game in the vein of marvel vs Capcom for 2 players.

Wii fit plus is a lot of fun and good for getting in shape but you'll need to get a balance board.

Zelda Skyward Sword is single player but still a great Zelda title. Twilight princess too of you didn't have it on gamecube. SS needs a motion plus controller to work though.

Warioware: Smooth Moves is great four player madness of microgames. Simple one button games that last 2-3 seconds in quick succession. Lots of options for vs or co-op.

Punch-out: sort of a rhythm and a fighting game where you have to memorize patterns to defeat the enemy. This one is a lot of fun but also pretty hard. Has a head to head mode too.

Wii Party: like Mario party but with miis.

I assume it is. I don't know how many different versions there are. It looks like this
