I loved Cloud Atlas. Back around Christmas it seemed like they were showing it constantly on HBO so I watched it multiple times, which is not usually something I'm keen on doing with a ~3 hour movie. I really wanted to read the book after I watched it for the first time. I never did get around to doing that, but I did order the blu-ray when it seemed to drop off of the HBO schedule.

Pawn Shop Chronicles

Wasn't the best movie, but was fun and from the guy behind Mindhunters and Running Scared. It's an anthology movie that tells three different stories all woven around the same Pawn Shop. First story is about a meth cook robbery, the second about a guy tracking down his wife that had been missing for six years, and the third is about an Elvis impersonator obsessed with fame that can barely pay for a cup of coffee. I didn't think it was nearly as good as Running Scared, but it was entertaining. Decent cast, too. One of Uncle Jack's white supremacist buddies from Breaking Bad plays a... white supremacist meth head in the first story.

Wolverine was always my favorite X-Men as a child so I'm glad there's finally a movie he carries that I enjoy.

I already said I don't care for the originals. Even X-2 I thought was kind of boring.

Godzilla

Was alright. Could have used more Godzilla and less humans adorably firing guns at giant monsters, but whatever. Also definitely could have used more Bryan Cranston. When Godzilla started merking those fools it was p. cool though. Biggest surprise was seeing the credits and realizing the main dude was the kid who played Kick-Ass. I didn't recognize him at all.

The Purge: Anarchy

Well, I liked it better than the first one, but I guess that isn't saying too awful much. At least this one wasn't confined to a single house, and didn't feature a dumb ass kid. Still when everyone was killing each other it was fun enough. Looking at the budget for both of the Purge movies (12m combined) vs. how much money they made (191m combined) I guess these will keep on coming. Especially since they go ahead and start the countdown for the next purge at the end of the movie.

He's not my favorite but he was when I was a kid so he has a place in my heart. Either way, Days of Future Past had more iconic X-Men that I enjoyed seeing than First Class.

Love Actually

I actually loved (hahaha...haha...ha...shoot me) it. I thought I recognized the kid the entire movie and was trying to figure out from where. Never figured it out so I had to search the cast list and had a bottom to medium lel when I saw that it was Jojen Reed from GoT. And I'll never get used to Andrew Lincoln actually being British.

If I see that movie for some Alan Rickman goodness how satisfied will I be?

Not sure how well it would scratch a Rickman itch. He is one of the main characters, but there's so many that it never really fully commits to any of them. He plays a man flirting with infidelity and has a funny scene with Mr. Bean. But if you're only in it for the Rickmeister you might send me hate mail if I suggested you watch it.

It is a really good Christmas movie / romcom though.

New Year's Eve

It sounded sort of similar to Love Actually so I was hoping it would be just as good. Spoiler alert - it wasn't. Nice ensemble cast, but too many characters that just fell flat. Also lel at the double swerve they shoehorn into the end for no real reason. Still going to give Valentine's Day a shot.

It all started with Godzilla. Those mutos just wanted to live together in peace but no, Captain Fuckstick had to rise from the ocean and put the kibosh on everything.

Three Kings

Starts out as a darkly comedic romp following US soldiers through First Gulf War-era Iraq. George Clooney, Marky Mark, and Ice Cube are likable enough to make it work. Then somewhere along the way, shit hits the fan and the sudden outbursts of violence remind us that this is a war movie, though the dark humor does continue to rear its head throughout the film. I really enjoyed it and I miss the days where making fun of foreign dictators was regular in American media. War truly is hell.

I looked up the director and was surprised to find that he later went on to do Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, neither of which I cared for at all. Also a wut moment to learn that Spike Jonze, who directed Her (among other movies) acted in this?
