Any other movies you all can think to recommend that are sort of similar? I've seen Eternal Sunshine. |
Hmm...there's a trilogy of "Before" movies (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight) that focus on a single couple. Each entry takes place over one day and they're spaced nine years apart, so as the actors age in real life, so too do the characters evolve and grow from movie to movie. Their relationship changes as well, and each movie can be seen as being about a different part of their relationship (the first one is about young love, the last one is about being middle-aged). Also, each one takes place in a different foreign location (first one is in Vienna, second on in Paris, last one in Greece). It's easily one of the most consistently good movie trilogies I can think of and I thoroughly enjoyed each one. They're sad, sweet, funny, and interesting. As a whole it might not be exactly what you're looking for but I do think the first one, Before Sunrise, is pretty similar to Lost in Translation at least. And if you like that one then move onto the next one.

Not quite good as the ones already mentioned but I'd recommend 500 Days of Summer if you haven't seen that

Whenever I'm in that very specific MOOD for a movie like this, I usually watch...
Lost In Translation
Eternal Sunshine
Garden State
Punch Drunk Love
Away We Go
American Beauty
The Truman Show
Stranger Than Fiction
I really love them all. I've tried to look for movies similar to LIT too. The Before trilogy is always recommended. So are Broken Flowers, Sideways, Somewhere (same director), Closer, The Descendants. Never seen any of those but I'd like to

If we're getting into "middle aged man wants to break out of his unfulfilling life" movies then Adaptation is a must-see. | Nintendo Network ID: EctoCooler47 |

lol I assumed he was just asking about romcom-ish movies. Forgot about Punch-Drunk Love though, would definitely recommend that

X-Men: Days of Future Past
Thought it was pretty good. Wish there would have been a little more going on with Bishop, Sunspot, and the other New Mutants that were included in the future. Or at least some more Quicksilver in the past so it wasn't all largely a Wolverine and Beast buddy cop movie featuring heroin hippy Xavier, but I guess it wasn't really needed. Was great to see big Pete D. playing a role that didn't revolve around him being a dwarf.
I also wish they would stop trying to make Toad happen. Seems like he was always in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants but there's just no way to do him and his stupid tongue and make it cool.

I thought it was easily the best X-Men movie. Tension is high from the opening minutes and it's pretty amazing how they tied together the timelines of First Class and the original trilogy. I personally didn't care for the original movies at all, but I enjoyed First Class and it was cool to see everything come together like that. Wolverine was always my favorite X-Men as a child so I'm glad there's finally a movie he carries that I enjoy. | Nintendo Network ID: EctoCooler47 |

Let's Be Cops - pretty mediocre tbh! The first half, where the two discover and indulge their newfound power, is kind of funny. The humor comes from the moral BANKRUPTCY tho, so when the movie starts getting all plot-based and 'emotional' it falls really flat. There's lots of action in the second half that is shot terribly too, and at that point all the jokes are just the characters yelling at each other.

Actually had some time over the weekend and watched a couple flicks on Netflix and wife and I rented one off of Verizon.
1. Bad Words
Well, I really love Jason Bateman and this movie had both my wife and I in tears from laughter. I mean, who doesn't love a 40 year old man using a loophole to compete in kids spelling bees. Some great 1 liners and a very good watch. I will watch again.
2. Girl Most Likely
Kristin Wiig is usually entertaining and the cast is somewhat decent. But the movie dragged and wasn't all that good. Darren Criss is a good actor. I enjoy watching him, yes, even on Glee.
3. Stuck in Love
Dear Jennifor Connelly, I <3 you. Movie is actually very very good. Good drama flick with a good pace and very interesting character develompment. Greg Kinnear does a very great job also. |

Cloud Atlas. Finally
It's a difficult movie to talk about. I can see why everyone was so divided by it. One of my friends said it was the only movie he's ever walked out of a theater during, another one says it's his favorite movie of all time
It was very good. It's a movie you probably have to watch a second time and I feel like that's part of the point. The connections between the different timelines aren't obvious at all which I liked a lot, you really have to pay attention and think during it. Even though it's slightly daunting right now to consider watching it again, I bet it would be worth it
I loved the way the stories were edited together. You zip in and out of them so quickly. Sometimes there's a common thread between the scenes and sometimes there didn't appear to be. It was cool. And the music was awesome. It was an extremely ambitious movie
