I actually don't think I've ever had a pizza that I genuinely disliked, it's one of the few foods you can't really get wrong, just some are better than others. Even Little Caesar's which is the worst of the chains I'd be perfectly okay with eating any time |
Cici's and Chuck E Cheese's you should just eat the napkin instea; it tastes better and probably has more nutritional value. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

Anybody a hardcore biker and have some recommendations?
I want to buy a bike but no idea where to start or what to look for.
Want something stable that's going to last for a while but don't want to spend too much. |
Start with an inexpensive bike, rather than going crazy, because you are likely to fuck it up a bit if you ride it all the time. I started with a $250 jobber when I started bike commuting and rode it a couple years until the axle fell off. Then I felt better about spending upwards. My current bike is still on the "cheap" end of nicer bikes and cost me $800.
You can go cheaper than the $250 jobber- they have sub-$100 bikes available, but you'll be limited in gears and likely have the bike crap out in a year or so. |
Any recommendations on brands or type of bike I should look for?

I'm immune to poison ivy :yay: |
It's my only allergy, but I get it terrible- poison ivy, oak, and sumac.
Last time I was on steroid shots. Luckily that was years ago. It's how I learned what poison sumac looks like. It doesn't have the helpful "leaves of three" thing. |
I get it from looking at a picture of it. Although I have done better at avoiding it since I learned the trick.

I think my first one was a Giant or Specialized, but their lower end model. You'll want three gears up front, and you'll likely end up with seven or eight in the back on a less expensive bike. Either way, you'll be in good shape to change from high 3-7 for downhill and flats to granny gear 1-1 for hill climbing. The less expensive bikes will be a little heavier, they'll have standard brakes, and stuff like that.
Key thing to keep in mind is what you plan on doing with the bike. If you are mainly doing city biking with potholes and such, go with a hybrid or even a lighter mountain bike. Don't go for one of the speedy "street" bikes with the tiny tires, because you'll likely beat it up and bend the wheels early on. Better to go a little bit heavier with shocks for the first bike (my first was a mountain bike which gave me shocks on the front and back for a smoother ride on DC potholes).
I'll post more advice later. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

Yep- I'm the same. I had avoided it all until I got the poison sumac, since it doesn't follow the avoidance rule and so I had no idea I was wallowing in it. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

Moar bike advice:
OK, again, as noted above, you'll want to start with a less expensive bike, likely a hybrid or a mountain bike instead of a street bike. You'll want to buy from a bike shop if possible, since they'll have accessories and often have a service plan on what they sell (my shop of choice has a couple month service plan on new purchases, since gear wires stretch a little after you've ridden them a bit, so you bring it in for a free tune up).
You'll find once you have the bike that you may start turning it into your primary mode of transport, which will inform what accessories you need to purchase. But one thing- don't become the asshole in the bike shorts with the diaper padding and the spandex jersey- I hate those fuckers with a passion. Especially the padded shorts- that shit is nasty- you should just get a nicer seat. But I digress.
In terms of accessories, I'll break them up into "must have" and "nice to haves". I'll start popping those things below in separate posts (partially because I'm hungry and need to go grab some food first).

Maybe it was one of the Village People?
Granted, if this was near Dupont Circle, it would be 1) Highly likely except 2) Probably wouldn't be asking for you. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

If I'm going for a long bike ride for exercise then I will for sure wear my padded shorts - but if I'm biking around town to bars, etc. then I don't.

Fuck that shit- I'll take the added "weight" of my comfy padded seat over feeling that shit in my pants all the time. ;)
