I'm holding off judgmdgment until sentencing and post-trial motions. All I can say is fuck the DOJ, I think he's an easy target with a lot of $$ that doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut, so many people probably have done much worse things on Wall Street but are smarter about it. This case had nothing to do with him raising the price of the drug, it was about him allegedly defrauding investors. I do think the DOJ tried to throw the book at him hoping some shit would stick due to his portrayal in the media. I definitely think he wouldn't be in such a pickle if he kept his mouth shut.

And about raising the price of the drug, I think his first job is to the shareholders. I think everyone here would do the exact same thing, especially when tens of millions of dollars are on the line. I don't think you can say with certainty what you would do in his spot without being there.

I think the vitriol he has had towards him is very unwarranted.

Honestly I don't know shit about the other stuff he is accused/convicted of, but the raising the price on the drug(s) (wasn't it an AIDS drug and a diabetes drug?) and then laughing about it on reddit was one of the biggest scumbag moves ever.

AIDS drug, yes. I mean the guy never had a chance to explain himself without the mainstream media trying to destroy him for it, they made him into a pariah so he in turn trolled the shit out of everyone. Eventually getting to tell his side of the story. Obviously he did buy it as a business move, but that's the industry. If you want to blame someone, blame the government and insurance companies for the system we have. He's not the only one that was part of this decision in the company, nor is this the first time that something like this has happened. He never was like "haha fucking AIDS patients, get fukt". It's just not constructive to put all the hate on this one guy. Sure, it's hard to defend the ethics behind this as having a net positive towards society. But when you put all the blame on this guy, you're not going to change anything. He's not the first company/CEO that did this and sure as hell won't be the last. Welcome to the dark side of capitalism, shitting on this guy won't change it. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Yea the system is what's fucked. Insurance can mark up a lot of these drugs and a lot of the time the costs can be passed on to the consumer. It's walking a thin line, you still need to award these companies for innovations for making life saving drugs, or otherwise they wouldn't get made (no money, no incentive). But at the same time you don't want to fuck over the patients.
