Finished. I'd say it was on par with season three, maybe a bit better. I just don't know how I could name a season without Avon as the best! I MISS AVON! All seasons are really equal for me overall tbh. Probably because of the huge gaps of time I took watching between seasons 1/2 and 3/4
The story of the boys was pretty great. Randy :( . He was my favorite by far. It's so sad that his perma grin was completely gone by the time the season ended. I assume he's not featured much in the last season which makes me sad. Namond cleaning himself up was nice. I did end up caring about him by the end, but I'd rather see the success story with any of the other three boys. Who did Michael kill? Anyone we know? That's a sad case as well. Dukie dropping out...also sad! Lots of sadness. I didn't care a whole lot about Dukie though overall. His story was sad, but he didn't get as much attention as the rest. The grafitti of their names at the end made my heart hurt. And shoutout to boy #5, Donut. Him running the red light at the end was one of the hardest I laughed this season
Carver continues to be great and one of my favorites. I really, really wish he could've legally adopted Randy. Randy saying he can give Carver like 200 bucks to get placed in a foster home broke my heart. IT BROKE IT.
Bubbles breaking down at the end, sad. Landsman saying fuck the board and letting Bubbles go, happy
Ugh Bodie. Felt like a season finale death just to have a season finale death tbh, especially since he was an original. I'm glad he went down swinging and continued to do so even though he knew he would die..but ugh. I wish he had more to do this season
Is this it for Prez? I want him to have a happy ending and become a better teacher. I loved it when Albert's joke got absolutely no response from the rest of the class
Can someone trace the path of Avon's RING for me? I can't recall how Walker got his hands on it at all. I like things like that though
Another great moment, Chris as Michael's mentor at the end, sending him on his first kill and then saying he can look his victims in the eye. I loved the Chris/Michael stuff. The connection that Chris has with him through shared tramatic experiences feels so deep
P good finale overall. I think my favorites of the season were the previous two episodes but this one was up there. Last episode might have been my favorite

It started as Old Face Andre's actually. Marlo makes him give it to him just because he wanted it IIRC, then it later gets stolen by Omar at the poker game. Then later when Omar has a warrant out for him, Walker gets on the scene first and steals it from him before the other cops show up. Then obviously it gets stolen by Michael

I don't know actually. I know MKW was in a bit of it, but Slim was unrecognizable.

Watched 5x01 and 5x02
STUFF:
Sad to see Carcetti become just another politician but I guess it was bound to happen. So many issues caused by him not taking money from the Governor
I really liked the scene with Carver trying to take command of the Western, screaming at the officers to be quiet and sit down. I really like Carver. I think he's grown more than many on this show
Lots of change already. It's like a year later right? MCU gets shut down YET AGAIN! I'm sick of that cycle tbh. I wanna get into some good ole' fashion MCU police work. Another big change is McNulty which is really just an unsurprising step backwards. It's a funny jump, seeing him all optimistic about being able to do good police work again without becoming an asshole and an alcoholic, but now it's a year later and he's exactly how he was before. Drinking, talking back to commanders, sleeping around etc. Poor whats-her-name. I liked that tight focus on McNulty when Daniels shut them down
Bubbles' story is good so far, I'm finding myself slightly more interested in it. I think it's because the actor does such a good job of showing how much Sherrod's death is weighing on him. It's not something that's just forgotten, it's a huge event in Bubbs' life
NEWSPAPER. It's okay so far. I think I would've really liked it if it was more PRESENT in the previous seasons. One of the things the street stories do so well is bump up the importance of basically background characters way down the road. Someone like Chris becomes important and you realize he was there in the background a lot of the time already. I would've liked more of that with the Sun staff. I think we did see ff_zero earlier at one point? Maybe interviewing about Hamsterdam? I can't remember. And there might've been more tbh that I just can't recall. That might be the kinda thing that gets way better on rewatch. I feel like it could be. The paper is another perfect "FACTION" of the city to tell these intertwining stories with
Gus is my favorite of them so far, easily. Probably because he's the only one whose name I remember. He's good so far though, I like him. He reminds me of the Cutty/Bunny character this season. I can already see him doing something seemingly minor in these early episodes that has a huge ripple effect on the rest of the season. Nothing notable about any of the other staff members yet, other than Gale showing up
Liked the "mother of four" discussion, followed by the cut to McNulty investigating the death of a different(?) mother of four.
AVON MY BOY!!! I loved his reappearance. That was his last scene on the show wasn't it? Ugh. I can't deal with that. How could they at least not check back in with him in the final montage at the end of the series!! That's downright criminal. He's the greatest
Liked the Michael scenes, especially when he questioned why they would kill someone over a rumor that he bad talked Marlo. And the fact that he didn't gun down the little boy. Glad to see there's humanity left in him, things were looking bleak at the end of last season. I still don't care for Dukie much. Seeing him so involved in THE GAME(!!) was sad. I just miss Randy. Very badly
Oh god and McNulty and this serial killer thing. I almost forgot about that. What a goon. That was way worse than when the body was moved out of the Hamsterdam safe zone
WHAT ELSE WHAT ELSE
Herc working for LEVY. lel. And Clay Davis freaking the fuck out to Burrell. I love when Clay Davis gets worked up, his voice is so funny for it
Liked the opening scene of the season, with Bunk and the photocopier lie detector. That was funny. I know the opening scenes are key so I'll be keeping it in my mind. I'm guessing something about "The bigger the lie, the more they believe" line will echo out throughout the season
I like the opening theme song way better than last season's. ALSO, it's crazy to be that this season aired in 2008, the year I graduated High School. The show seems way older to me for whatever reason. It just LOOKS older. I can't believe that this was airing at the same time as season four of Lost. Isn't that crazy?

I think it's because it was filmed in 4:3. I guess they just wanted more of a documentary feel
And yeah, S5's theme song is my favorite. The guy that plays WALON actually sings it (:

Yeah I read that. Had no idea what his name was. He's a pretty awful actor (:
The aspect ratio changed for this final season, it was such a glaring change. Still feels way older to me though. It's something about the lighting/audio/cinematography

It was SD most of the way just because David Simon really wanted that RAWNESS. I agree about newspaper characters. One reason Bunny worked so well was we were introduced to him before he became relevant to the plot. I think if GUS for instance worked on something beforehand it would have made it more palatable.

I hate Tony, the douchebag cop with the awful hair. He's such a dummy. I just got to the scene where Carter stands up to him, "Then I'm a rat." I cheered
I hope this doesn't end bad for Carver, I can see him having the same rat reputation that Randy does now
