Perhaps the one injured wing has forced the other one to be much much stronger

I feel like I barely even need to explain Ryan's arm wrestling hobby. After the surgery to fix his destroyed wing from the crash, Ryan started going around the pods in the prison and doing his own form of physical rehabilitation - illegal professional prison arm wrestling. He was complete bird shit at first, of course. He was only like two weeks out from his surgery. But slowly and surely his wing regained its strength. And then some! Far faster and stronger than it ever was before the accident. It didn't stop in the Coop. Once Ryan got out of prison he continued to chase the high of bigger challengers, bigger slams.

He's also been looking into the slap fighting championships.
